ActionAid Begins 3-day Capacity Building Workshop for Kogi Youth Commission Members


 

ActionAid Nigeria has begun a 3-day capacity workshop for Members of the Kogi State Youth Commission.

 

The 3-Day Training is in pursuance of the “System and Structure Strengthening Approach against Radicalization to Violent Extremism (SARVE II) in Kogi and Nasarawa States Project Phase II” is holding in Akwanga, Nasarawa State.

A statement made available to the press by the Technical Assitant to the Commision’s Chairman, Hon Iliyasu Zakari noted that the training is being facilitated by ActionAid Nigeria.

According to the statement, the programme is aimed at equipping the Board members to be able to contribute in preventing violent extremism in Kogi and Nasarawa State in particular and Nigeria in general.

He noted that the Resilience Programme Coordinator, ActionAid Nigeria, Mr. Anicetus Atakpu thanked the Kogi State Government for being the first state to establish a Youth Commission to cater for the needs of the Youth and entrusting it in the hands of young people to navigate the maiden voyage.

According to Mr Atakpu, Kogi has set the tone for other states to follow.

He congratulated the pioneer members of the commission and urged them to channel their energy to ensuring they give the commission a solid foundation and set her on the right footing.

He promised ActionAid’s readiness to always partner with the commission to achieve its lofty aims and objectives.

The enthused Chairman of the commission, Mr. Lawal Ozomata James who spoke after the first day sessions acknowledge that the quality of engagement is a valuable and the experience will not doubt be useful especially because they will be dealing with many development agencies and partners to ensure that Kogi Youths are empowered.

Mr. Lawal insisted that the members are highly motivated and focused on achieving the Commission’s mission which he said is “to achieve a peaceful and developed society by promoting continuous economic, environmental and social advancement through Skill Acquisition, Job Creation, Value reorientation and working with development agencies, philanthropists.”
