A Suspended Member Cannot Resign: Sen. Dino Melaye Remains Suspended

The attention of the Youth Wing of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has been drawn to a statement making the rounds regarding the purported resignation of Senator Dino Melaye from the party.
For the avoidance of doubt and in the interest of clarity, it must be emphasized that a suspended member of a political party cannot tender a resignation while under disciplinary sanction. The principle is simple: you cannot resign from an entity whose membership you have already been stripped of the privileges to exercise. Until the processes of reinstatement or expulsion are formally concluded, the individual remains under suspension and outside the functional operations of the party.
Senator Dino Melaye was duly suspended for gross anti-party activities, following established disciplinary procedures as enshrined in our party’s constitution. That suspension has neither been lifted nor overturned by any competent organ of the party. Therefore, any announcement of resignation is at best a political distraction and at worst an open disregard for due process.
This attempt to preempt or sidestep the outcome of ongoing disciplinary measures is unacceptable and sets a dangerous precedent. The PDP remains a party of structure, discipline, and constitutional order. No individual—no matter how prominent—is above the rules that govern us all.
Let it be clearly understood: Senator Dino Melaye remains suspended from the PDP. He cannot resign from a party from which he has already been barred from participating in any official capacity. Only after the conclusion of due disciplinary processes, including possible expulsion, can such matters of resignation even be contemplated.
The PDP Youth Wing reiterates its full support for the leadership of the party and the mechanisms established to enforce discipline and ensure party supremacy. The days of impunity and grandstanding are over.
