The Kogi State Commissioner For Education Science and Technology, Hon Wemi Jones, says Gov. Yahaya Bello has made a huge statement with the establishment of the GYB Model Science Secondary Schools.
Hon. Jones made the disclosure while taking a team of Journalists round the GYB Model Science Secondary School, Adankolo as part of activities lined up by the Kogi State NUJ to mark the seven years anniversary of the Gov. Yahaya Bello’s administration.
Hon. Jones disclosed that the GYB Model Science Secondary Schools is spread across the Senatorial District of the State, revealed that plans are also on the way to build six more of such schools across the State.
He explained that the idea leading to the establishment of GYB Model Science Secondary Schools is for the state to take the advantage of it rich natural resources to develop science education, disclosed that the world is now moving towards science, technology and mathematics, pointing out that the State cannot be left behind.
He described the GYB Model Science Secondary Schools as fully equipped with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Agricultural Science, Home Economics and Language labouratories for the students, said the prototype 2 of the GYB Model Science Secondary Schools will ensure that the state provide students for the two State Universities operational in the State.
He disclosed that with the coming on board of the GYB Model Science Secondary Schools, parents have had to remove there children from private schools, said while it was initially planned to cater for 120 students, the enticement in environment and facilities made the school at inception to witness an influx of 287 applicants.
The idea of the GYB Model Science Secondary Schools, Hon Jones explained is to further open up the spaces for parents to have choices and not to be limited and confined, said Gov. Bello has made a huge statement with the establishment of the GYB Model Science Secondary Schools.
While pointing out that another essence of the GYB Model Science Secondary Schools is to provide students for the Confluence University of Science and Technology Osara, that has had seamless academic calendar, with no strike, described CUSTECH as one of the best University in the Country.
