By joshua Osun State Accounts Freezing: Edo Group Wants EFCC Chairman Remove

A Socio-political and pressure group, Concerned Edo Citizens Forum (CECF) on Saturday called for the resignation of the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Olanipekun Olukoyede over the controversial freezing and unfreezing of the accounts of the Osun State government.
The group said President Bola Tinubu should wield the big stick and sack him if he did not resign since according to them, it was obvious he was not sensitive to the mood of the nation in taking such a decision.
Arising from an emergency meeting called to discuss and assess the state of the nation, the group also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure a free and credible 2027 general elections.
Speaking to journalists in Benin City after the meeting, Convener of the group, Comrade Roy Oribhabor said the action of the chairman of the Commmssion was an embarrassment to the president.
According to him, “Since President Tinubu said he was embarrassed with the action of the EFCC, we call for the immediate resignation of the Commission’s chairman for embarrassing the President and in the event that he did not resign, we call for his immediate sack.
Oribhabor said he took loyalty more than professional conduct. Even the timing was wrong, as a professional he was supposed to understand that this is a political period that you don’t need to act in such a way.
He added that, the chairman has rubbished and undermined the principles and democratic values that the President believed over the years. If the president doesn’t sack him, there are many people who he thinks are working for him but they are actually working against him.”
On the 2027 elections, he said “The CECF is aware that from the 19th of this month, political parties are allowed to officially begin their campaigns so we are calling on the INEC to ensure a free, credible and peaceful election by abiding with the laws made for the conduct of the election.”
