The Kogi State Chairman of Inter Party Advisory Council, Ukwenya Musa has Commended the Independent National Electoral Commission over plans to create more polling units in the State.
Mr. Ukwenya gave the Commendation shortly after attending a stakeholders meeting organised by INEC to intimate critical stakeholders of the commissions plan to create additional polling units in the State.
With the new development, Kogi State which has a total number of 1, 646,350 registered voters, with 3508 voting points, has 2548 old polling units, had proposed 960 new polling units for the state.
The IPAC Chairman said the creation of the new polling units in the State is long over due, pointing out that due to increase population, people relocating from one place to another, the creation of the new unit has become expedient.
He disclosed that many people had over the years before now are usually disenfranchised during Election, said with the new polling units, people’s interest would be arouse to participate in selecting their representatives and leaders.
The IPAC Chairman however frowned at the method by which INEC unilaterally created the units with the input of the Stakeholders, said in the future the people should be part of the decision making.
