Take Booze, But Not Like Ikpeazu

Take Booze, But Not Like Ikpeazu

Mr Abaribe after running out of his collection of divisive cartridges took a rather thoughtless swipe on Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello. The unwarranted and unsubstantiated attack saw thought leaders across the country condemning him for being uncharitable.

Right on the floor of the red chamber, Distinguished Senator Smart Adeyemi rose and set the record straight. But because his references were too fact laden, the empty men whom he had called out, not out of malicious intents but clearly for didactic intent, resorted to torrents of abuses.

My friend Zuma B has always insisted that Mr Ikpeazu was a worthless state chief executive. I had said, how could he have been such a bad guy. He has a PhD fa. But Zuma continues to give reasons for his position. He calls him kerosene governor till date. I felt we could give him some more chances to reflect on his misadventures. I was wrong.

And for all good intents, the delinquency of the Kerosene governor is an isolated case. Because, except for the separatist at the red chamber, most abians I know are great folks with remarkable capacities to make and sustain mutually respectful relationships across tribal and religious lines.

Those of us who are worried about excessive alcohol intake among those holding the levers of power in this state do so because we understand the painful sacrifices that abians are making to sustain the wantonness of the champagne guzzling rascal.

Abia rakes in billions in taxes. This is not in doubt. Past leaders have made sacrifices that now translate into this. The Lord will bless them. But sadly, the facts on ground contrasts sharply with the state of development in God’s Own State. How the kerosene man managed to thoroughly mess with the shining light is disturbing for those of us who genuinely respect and love Abia.

And yes, since foreign brewed alcohol are not congenial to the internal physiognomy of these rascals, why won’t you honor the ingenuity and resilience of our local brewers – who continue to blossom despite the kerosene governor’s chaotic ineptitude – by adding their products to shopping list of booze?
