PAAU MANAGEMENT RECONSTITUTES COMMITTEE FOR 2026/2027 SUG ELECTION, FOLLOWING THE EXPIRATION OF TENURE OF THE PAST EXCO

The Management of Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba, has reconstituted Students’ Union Government (SUG) Election Committee for the 2026/2027 academic session following the expiration of the tenure of the Comrade Rilwan Abubakar Obaje led Exco.
The decision was prompted at a meeting held on Thursday, October 22, 2026, between the University Management and representatives of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Joint Campus Committee (JCC), Kogi State Chapter; the Students’ Union Government (SUG); the National Association of Kogi State Students (NAKOSS); and other student leaders and stakeholders who requested the Management to reactivate the Student Union Government democratic process without further delay.
The meeting deliberated on concerns surrounding the delay in conducting the election for the 2026/2027 academic session, which commenced on October 18, 2026.
In response to the appeals made at the meeting, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Salisu Ogbo Usman, has reconstituted the Committee to facilitate the process.
The Dean of Student Affairs, Professor A. A. Ameh, has been appointed as Chairman of the Committee, which is expected to ensure orderly conduct of the election in accordance with established University procedures.
Meanwhile, the University Management has directed the immediate past President, Comrade Rilwan Abubakar Obaje and other Executive members of the 2025/2026 session to handover all the Students’ Union Government and University properties in their possession to the Director of Security of the University.
The directive was conveyed in a letter dated October 23, 2026, to the former President, Comrade Obaje and his executive members for the 2025/2026 academic session.
The delay in conducting the election as explained by the Management was due to the security concerns from the unfortunate incident of June 11, 2026, which resulted in the death of a student following an unapproved Final Year Brethren (FYB) celebration.
This prompted the University Management to introduce necessary security measures to safeguard lives, maintain peace and order, and prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
The Vice Chancellor appreciated the former Exco for their service to the Union in particular and the entire University community and wish them well in their future endeavors.
