KOGI LG POLLS: KOLAWOLE HAILS KOSIEC, ODODO OVER PEACEFUL, CREDIBLE CONDUCT, CONGRATULATES KABBA-BUNU CHAIRMAN-ELECT, OTHERS

Former Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Prince Mathew Kolawole, has commended the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC) for the peaceful and successful conduct of the 2026 Local Government Council elections held across the state on Saturday.

Prince Kolawole also congratulated Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, noting that the historic feat of conducting a violence-free grassroots election is happening in his time as Chief Servant of the state.

In a statement issued in Lokoja on Sunday, the former Speaker described the election, which held on October 17, 2026, across the 21 Local Government Areas, 239 wards and 3,508 polling units, as a watershed in the democratic evolution of Kogi State.

He said KOSIEC under the leadership of its Chairman, Hon. Mamman Nda Eri, deserves commendation for its thorough preparation, voter education and stakeholder engagement which ensured no political party or civil society group had cause to challenge the process in court.

“While the administration of the outgoing Chairmen and Councillors winds up this quarter, Governor Ododo must be given kudos for providing the logistics, the needed funds and for giving KOSIEC a free hand to operate. Without the enabling environment created by the Governor, KOSIEC would have been helpless,” Kolawole stated.

According to him, the Governor’s commitment to full democratization of all tiers of government, from National Assembly to Governorship and Council levels, has made Kogi a leading light in grassroots democracy.

“All registered political parties participated, security agencies were at alert and there was no violence in any part of the state. Kogi leads and other states copy and follow. This peaceful conduct is a great milestone on the political scorecard of Governor Ododo,” he added.

Prince Kolawole further congratulated all winners of the election, particularly the Chairman-elect of Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area and Councillors-elect across the state, describing their victory as a call to more service.

He said the impressive turnout and peaceful atmosphere have once again proved that Kogi is democratically compliant and peaceful courtesy of Governor Ododo’s inclusive leadership.

“Kogi is democratically compliant, Kogi is peaceful courtesy of the Chief Servant of Kogi State, His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo. Our amiable Governor deserves a second term because one good term deserves another,” the statement concluded.
