By joshua NAPS ELECTS NOAH AGADA AS VICE PRESIDENT, NATIONAL AFFAIRS AT 2026 NATIONAL CONVENTION IN ABUJA
The National Association of Polytechnic Students, NAPS, has elected *Comrade Noah Agada* as its Vice President, National Affairs, during the Association’s 2026 National Convention held at Kapital Klub Hall, Asokoro, Abuja.
Agada emerged as one of the newly elected members of the National Executive Council, NEC, following a peaceful, transparent and credible electoral process attended by accredited delegates from 191 tertiary institutions across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.
The convention, themed _“Strengthening Polytechnic Education for National Development through Unity, Innovation and Strategic Leadership,”_ brought together representatives from Federal and State Polytechnics, Monotechnics and Colleges of Technology to deliberate on issues affecting technical education, students’ welfare, national development and the future of the Nigerian polytechnic system.
Delegates reaffirmed the Association’s commitment to academic excellence, institutional development, peaceful advocacy and constructive engagement with government, while also electing a new national leadership to steer the affairs of the organization.
*Comrade Jimoh Ibrahim* of Federal Polytechnic Bida was elected National President, while *Comrade Festus Agofure* of Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe-Oghara, emerged Senate President. Other key officers elected include *Comrade Lawal Lukman* as Secretary General and *Comrade Noah Agada* as Vice President, National Affairs, alongside 16 other national officers.
During the convention, delegates commended the Federal Government under *President Bola Ahmed Tinubu* for initiatives aimed at strengthening technical education, including sustained funding through TETFund, the implementation of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, NELFUND, infrastructure development and increased investment in technical and vocational education.
The convention also applauded security agencies for the successful rescue of the Rector, staff and students of Federal Polytechnic Kaura Namoda following a recent kidnapping incident, while calling for stronger security measures across tertiary institutions nationwide.
On student welfare, delegates urged the management of NELFUND to ensure timely disbursement of institutional fees and upkeep allowances to beneficiaries. They also called for the abolition of the current refund system associated with the student loan scheme, describing it as an unnecessary burden on students.
Among the major resolutions adopted were calls for improved funding of technical education, expanded hostel accommodation, enhanced campus security, sustained industrial harmony, and stronger collaboration between student bodies and institutional managements.
In its closing communiqué, NAPS reaffirmed its commitment to promoting quality technical education, national unity and responsible student leadership. The Association also expressed appreciation to the Federal Government and the Department of State Services, DSS, for their support towards the successful hosting of the 2026 National Convention.
