The Vice-Chancellor of Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, Engr. Prof. Abdulrahman Asipita Salawu, FNSE, has declared that the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, is visibly impacting the University through strategic interventions that have continued to transform the institution and improve the lives of its students.
Prof. Abdulrahman made the remarks on Tuesday, 4th August, 2026, while delivering his goodwill message during the commissioning of the Barefoot Renewable Energy College, Kogi State, located within the campus of Confluence University of Science and Technology, Osara.
The landmark facility, a pilot project of the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN), was commissioned by the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Kashim Shettima, GCON.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed profound appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his unwavering commitment to the advancement of education and human capital development through the Renewed Hope Agenda.
According to him, the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has become a lifeline for many CUSTECH students who would have otherwise abandoned their studies due to financial challenges.
“At CUSTECH alone, we have students who would have almost dropped out of school because they could not afford their school fees. Today, they are still in school because of President Tinubu’s NELFUND initiative,” he stated.
Prof. Abdulrahman further noted that the University is also benefiting from the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Student Housing Initiative through the construction of a female students’ hostel, a project aimed at improving the welfare and learning environment of students.
He described the commissioning of the Barefoot Renewable Energy College as another significant milestone for the University and Kogi State, explaining that the institution will provide practical training for both skilled and unskilled Nigerians in solar installation, mini-grid development, renewable energy systems, and other emerging clean energy technologies.
The Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, GCON, commended and congratulated the Vice-Chancellor for successfully hosting the historic event, describing him as the immediate beneficiary of the pilot Barefoot Renewable Energy College established by the Energy Commission of Nigeria. He expressed confidence that the institution would maximize the opportunities presented by the facility to advance renewable energy education and skills acquisition in Nigeria.
In his remarks, Prof. Abdulrahman paid glowing tribute to the founder of CUSTECH, former Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello, CON, for his foresight and visionary leadership in establishing the University.
He noted that the establishment of CUSTECH has continued to yield remarkable dividends, saying that the institution has become a centre of excellence in science, technology and innovation.
The Vice-Chancellor also appreciated the Executive Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, for sustaining the vision of the University’s founder through his consistent support and commitment to the growth and development of CUSTECH.
Prof. Abdulrahman equally expressed gratitude to the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Energy Commission of Nigeria, Dr. Abdullahi Mustapha, for his immense contributions to the establishment of the Barefoot Renewable Energy College and his continued support towards advancing renewable energy education in Kogi State and Nigeria at large.
