In a display of uncommon leadership that transcends the typical boundaries of socio-cultural activism, the National President of the Ogori Descendants Union (ODU), Dr. Gabriel Aiso, has emerged not merely as a community spokesman but as a pivotal figure bridging the gap between grassroots anxiety and governmental action in Kogi State.
Recent events have thrust Dr. Aiso into the national spotlight, showcasing a leadership style that is both proactive in demanding accountability and collaborative in seeking solutions. Just weeks ago, the Ogori Descendants’ Union expressed deep concern over the escalating security crisis along the Ageva–Magongo Road, a vital corridor that has become a hotbed for kidnappings and armed attacks. In a statement that captured the palpable fear gripping the community, Dr. Aiso declared, “Our people are anxious, and the daily reality of travelling this road has become a burden no community should bear.”

He revealed that a past economic analysis showed the festival generated three times more revenue than the famed Argungu fishing festival, a powerful argument for greater state investment. The theme for the 2026 edition, “Living The Legacy: A Celebration Of Our Rich Tradition & Identity,” highlights the community’s commitment to preserving its cultural heritage while showcasing its deep-rooted values, particularly the celebration and empowerment of the girl child. “If I were the President of Nigeria, I would spend most of my time in Ogori studying how Ogori people treat their girl child,” Dr. Aiso remarked, pointing to the community’s progressive stance on gender equality.
In a development that further cements his status as a leader who inspires the next generation, Dr. Aiso was again honoured with an Award of Honour by the University of Jos Chapter of the National Association of Kogi State Students (NAKOSS). The award, presented during a well-attended ceremony at the university campus, recognized his exemplary contributions to community development, youth empowerment, and the preservation of Kogi State’s rich cultural heritage.
Acknowledging the recognition, the ODU Vice President, Mrs. Petra Akinti Onyegbule, noted that the award was particularly meaningful as it came “from those whose lives have been touched and whose aspirations have been inspired by one’s example.” She further described the honour as a validation of Dr. Aiso’s tireless commitment to the Ogori nation and Kogi State at large, urging the students to remain steadfast in their academic pursuits and to emulate the leadership virtues their honouree represents.

The ODU President also reflected deeply on the role of family in personal success, paying glowing tribute to his wife for her immeasurable support over the years. According to him, having the right spouse is one of the most important decisions anyone can make, as a supportive partner plays a critical role in helping individuals actualise their vision and fulfil their purpose. “Behind every successful man is not just a woman, but a woman of understanding, patience, and unwavering support,” he remarked, drawing applause from the gathering.
Dr. Aiso thanked the University of Jos Chapter of NAKOSS for the recognition and encouraged the students to pursue excellence, remain committed to their values, and contribute positively to the development of Kogi State and Nigeria at large. He charged them to be ambassadors of their communities, carrying the light of knowledge and the pride of their heritage wherever they go.
Dr. Aiso’s leadership is informed by a distinguished background in administration and academia. A holder of a doctorate in Public Administration, he serves as the Registrar of the Christian Faith Institute (CFI) and is a recognized author.
His recent recognition by the International Institute of Professional Corporate Entrepreneurship and Leadership (IIPCEL), which conferred on him the “Global Excellence in Cultural Heritage and Community Leadership Award,” underscores his national and international reputation.
