If you attend any major APC gathering in Kogi today, Engr. Bashiru Gegu is hard to miss. Microphone in hand, he moves between policy details and crowd engagement, translating government work into language that resonates at ward level.
As Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, Gegu came in with a chemical engineering background and applied it to a sector Kogi had barely tapped. Under his watch, the ministry secured 30 mineral titles and deployed heavy mining equipment. The focus is clear: convert Kogi’s mineral wealth into measurable revenue and jobs, not just talking points.
But his visibility extends beyond the Ministry. From Lokoja to Kogi West, Gegu has been a regular face at stakeholder engagements, youth dialogues and solidarity events. At a recent APC solidarity march in Lokoja, he told supporters: “Kogi is APC, APC is Kogi. We are confident of a resounding victory for President Tinubu in 2027.”
Party officials say that presence is strategic. Gegu bridges two worlds — the technical side of governance and the political work of mobilization. He ties projects in security, infrastructure and youth empowerment back to the APC’s message ahead of 2027, so voters see both the work and the reason behind it.
“You can build roads and still lose the narrative if people don’t understand the value,” a party chieftain in Lokoja observed. “Gegu makes that link. He shows the project, then explains the impact.”
His approach is practical. He has pushed for mobility support and allowances for youth leaders, arguing that grassroots structures can’t function without tools. He has also been one of the most vocal defenders of President Tinubu’s reforms and Governor Ododo’s record, crediting both for consolidating APC’s dominance in Kogi.
Those who work with him describe Gegu as hands-on, loyal and comfortable whether he’s reviewing a policy brief or speaking to a crowd. His formula is straightforward: deliver first, then communicate.
With 2027 on the horizon, that combination of technical execution and grassroots engagement is positioning Gegu as a central figure in Kogi APC’s strategy. In a state often called the APC’s stronghold in North Central Nigeria, he’s working to ensure the party’s structure stays active, visible and winning.
