The Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Information and Communication Technology and the South-West geopolitical zone, DIG Adegoke Fayoade, mni, has commenced his official tour of the South-West with strategic engagements in Ibadan aimed at strengthening security collaboration and improving policing across the region.
The tour began on Tuesday with courtesy visits to Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja. Discussions focused on deepening partnerships between the Nigeria Police Force, government institutions, traditional authorities, and local communities to sustain peace and promote development.
During his meeting with Governor Makinde, DIG Fayoade commended the state government’s consistent support for security agencies. He emphasized the importance of intelligence sharing, community policing, and inter-agency cooperation in addressing emerging security challenges across the South-West. He noted that collaboration remains key to maintaining the relative peace and stability currently enjoyed in Oyo State and the region.
At the Olubadan’s Palace, the DIG acknowledged the vital role of traditional institutions in grassroots security, conflict resolution, and community engagement. Oba Ladoja lauded the efforts of the Nigeria Police Force in maintaining law and order and pledged continued support to ensure a safer Ibadanland and South-West.
As part of the tour, DIG Fayoade also visited the Oyo State Police Command Headquarters, where he addressed senior officers, rank-and-file personnel, and stakeholders on professionalism, discipline, intelligence-led policing, and quality service delivery.
Speaking at the event, the DIG assured residents of Oyo State that the Nigeria Police Force is deploying advanced technological tools and technical expertise to secure the release of pupils and teachers recently abducted in Oriire Local Government Area.
“Technology is already being deployed in the rescue operation. It is only a matter of time before the abducted pupils and teachers are reunited with their families. Our priority is to bring them back alive, safe and sound,” DIG Fayoade stated.
He explained that the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Ridwan Disu, directed all Deputy Inspectors-General to embark on nationwide sensitization and operational assessment tours to engage officers and communities while building public confidence in policing.
Describing technology as the backbone of modern policing, the DIG said the Force continues to leverage digital tools, intelligence gathering systems, and technical expertise to respond to crime swiftly. “Whatever crime comes up, we deploy our technical experts and available technology to resolve it in the shortest possible time,” he said.
DIG Fayoade urged Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and tactical commanders to prioritize professionalism, transparency, and prompt response to public complaints. He stressed that public trust is one of the most effective tools for policing and warned officers against actions that could erode confidence.
“The only way to build trust is through sincerity, objectivity, and quality policing services. Be available when there is a problem and move swiftly to serve the public,” he charged.
He also called for continued vigilance and community support, noting that credible information from citizens remains vital in tackling crime and other threats to national security. “The South-West must remain safe and secure. We will continue to deal decisively with crime, but we need the support of the people through timely information,” he added.
Earlier, Oyo State Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Ayodeji Abimbola, welcomed the DIG and expressed confidence that the visit would enhance officers’ operational capacity through knowledge-sharing and strategic engagement.
The South-West tour is expected to take DIG Fayoade across the six states of the region as he evaluates operations, engages stakeholders, and strengthens institutional partnerships for effective policing. The Ibadan engagements have set a positive tone, reflecting the Force’s commitment to proactive policing, technological innovation, strategic partnerships, and community-driven security solutions.
