As Members of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, Kogi State Council, friends and relatives celebrate Elder Bola Emmanuel Boro at 70, I, Abu Michael of the Nigerian Post Newspaper, join in honouring a quintessential journalist per excellence whose life and career have set a standard for generations in the profession.
Elder Bola Boro is a man who has made his mark and stands as a shining example. He embodies a rare blend of professional skill, personal integrity, and social impact, qualities that have defined his journey and the legacy he leaves behind in journalism and public service.
Throughout his career, he demonstrated accuracy and factual rigour, never compromising on verifying facts before putting them out, and always steering clear of speculation and misinformation.
His clarity in storytelling made even the most complex issues accessible, turning reports into narratives that the public could understand and connect with.
He went beyond surface reporting with depth and investigative ability, uncovering context, causes, and holding power to account. Even as the media landscape evolved, he remained adaptable, moving with ease across print, broadcast, and digital platforms while keeping pace with new tools and audience demands.
Beyond skill, Elder Boro is respected for his ethics and integrity. He approached every story with objectivity and fairness, ensuring balanced perspectives without allowing personal bias to interfere.
He showed courage and independence in asking difficult questions and standing firm under pressure. And when mistakes occurred, he owned them and corrected them, upholding the trust the public places in the media.
His character and impact extend far beyond the newsroom. He built credibility and trustworthiness over decades, such that both sources and readers relied on his word.
He told human stories with empathy and sensitivity, respecting dignity whether he was covering conflict, tragedy, or the lives of marginalized communities.
As a mentor and leader, he inspired younger journalists, particularly my very self and raised the bar for professionalism within the Kogi media space.
His resilience and dedication saw him through tight deadlines, challenging environments, and criticism, yet he never lowered his standards.
At his core, he carried a public service mindset, seeing journalism not merely as a career but as a duty to inform, educate, and strengthen democratic discourse.
In short, Mr. Boro is credible, courageous, ethical, articulate, and impact-driven — a journalist whose work not only informs but also shapes public understanding and serves as a benchmark for others in the field.
Elder Emmanuel Boro, former Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Kogi State Council, also served with distinction as Public Relations Officer at the Ministry of Health, PRO at the Ministry of Agriculture and KOSACA, was a Director Special Grade at the Ministry of Information before his retirement.
In every office he held, he performed excellently and left lasting footprints, reasons, Colleagues described him as a great man and an exceptional leader, a light in the journalism profession and a man to reckon with any day, any time.
He is widely regarded as a father figure in the Kogi media space, a trusted ally and mentor to younger journalists. His tenure as Kogi NUJ Chairman is remembered for stability, while his commitment to members’ welfare and professionalism remains unmatched.
At the ministries, he was known for clarity and accessibility, building strong bridges between government and the press.
Today, as he attains the biblical three scores and ten, I join friends and associates in celebrating him with gratitude and admiration.
Happy 70th birthday, Sir. Many happy returns. May your strength continue to match your days, and may the impact of your service continue to echo in the lives you have touched.
