KOGI PDP STAKEHOLDERS CLOSE RANKS, VOW TO RECLAIM STATE IN 2027
… Party resolves internal rifts, pledges support for E-registration, backs Senator Natasha’s leadership
Stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kogi State have resolved to close ranks and work as a united front to reposition the party and reclaim elective positions in the 2027 general elections.
The resolution was reached on Saturday at a consultative summit in Lokoja convened to reconcile factions and strengthen the party’s structure ahead of the polls.
In a communique issued after the meeting, the stakeholders pledged to contest all elective positions and expressed confidence in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct free, fair, and transparent elections.
The summit urged party leaders and members to actively support the ongoing PDP E-registration exercise while warning against the use of unauthorized registration portals circulating on social media.
Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central and is recognized as the party’s leader in the state, called for unity and a warm reception for returning and new members.
“The friction within the party has been resolved. INEC has recognized the Barrister Nyesom Wike-supported Executive Committee. We are back and better,” she said.
She stressed that PDP remains visible across all parts of Kogi and assured that the party would be on the ballot in 2027. She appealed for grassroots mobilization to make PDP the party of first choice in the state.
“Let us bury the hatchet and work as a team. This is a time for alignment and realignment. We must embrace everyone who wants to join voluntarily. PDP is a brand with space for both old and new entrants to aspire to any position,” she stated.
On her own political future, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan said she would announce her next move after consultations with her family and political leaders, noting that it would be in the party’s best interest. She added that she would campaign vigorously across Kogi Central if she decides to contest.
She also commended INEC and security agencies for their role in safeguarding the electoral process but warned against any compromise in favour of the ruling party, saying “the whole world is watching.”
Alhaji Mohammed Abdullahi, popularly known as “Elephant,” announced his return to the PDP after a stint with the African Democratic Congress (ADC). To demonstrate commitment, he made a cash donation to support the E-registration project.
Similarly, Kogi East senatorial hopeful Hassan Idris (HK) promised to work to ensure PDP makes a strong comeback in the state.
In his remarks, State Chairman Mohammed Gambo urged members to work in unison, saying PDP has what it takes to reclaim Kogi State. He also called for total support for Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan in her future political aspirations.
The meeting was attended by notable party leaders including three-term House of Representatives member Taju Yusuf, former Reps members Barrister Shaba Ibrahim and Barrister Kabir, ex-governorship aspirant Abubakar Ibrahim Idris, former Deputy Speaker Hon. Aliyu Akuh, Paul Ukwenya, Yahaya Karaku, and Abdulraman Badamasuiy.
