MPGGP ANNOUNCES MAIDEN MOUNT PATTI RACING COMPETITION, UNVEILS PLANS FOR CABLE CARS, 100MW SOLAR PROJECT IN LOKOJA
The Mount Patti Global Glory Preservers (MPGGP), an independent tourism promotion organization, today announced plans to stage the maiden edition of the annual Mount Patti Racing Competition in Lokoja by the end of April 2026.
The initiative is designed to harness the tourism potential of Mount Patti, the historic hilltop that served as the official residence of Nigeria’s former Governor-General, Lord Lugard.
Speaking during an advocacy visit to the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kogi State Council, Alhaji Ademu Seidu, in Lokoja on Thursday, MPGGP Team Lead, Emeji Abdulraheem, said the event seeks to address gaps in government-led development of the site.
“Our study showed that government participation has not been inclusive enough. Private sector involvement and media coverage have been below expectations. MPGGP has stepped in to consolidate on the gains made so far and attract global attention to Mount Patti,” Abdulraheem stated.
Abdulraheem, who was accompanied by team members Salihu Shuaibu and Abdulrazak Ibrahim, explained that the project will run in two phases:
April 2026: A racing competition targeting youths aged 20–30 years for talent discovery and training.
October 2026: A national and international edition aimed at capacity building and tourism promotion.
He decried the current neglect of Mount Patti’s scenic beauty and pledged that MPGGP will clean up the site, carry out phased infrastructure upgrades, and ensure it becomes eco-friendly and globally competitive.
As part of its long-term vision, MPGGP plans to install 100 megawatts of solar power at the site, beginning with 10MW and scaling up gradually. The group also intends to introduce cable cars and high-speed elevators to convey tourists from ground level to the summit for aerial views of Lokoja.
Abdulraheem commended the Kogi State Government for approving MPGGP’s request to participate in Mount Patti’s development. He also appreciated the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development and the Kogi State Sports Council for their collaboration.
In his response, NUJ Chairman Alhaji Ademu Seidu thanked the MPGGP delegation and pledged the union’s support for purposeful media coverage of the initiative.
