KOSIEC Chairman Calls For Collaboration On Election Security At ICCES Meeting
… As Police Commissioner Bars Vigilante and Hunters From Participating in the Polls
The Chairman of the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC), Hon. Mamman Nda Eri, has emphasized the need for collaboration among security agencies in ensuring a peaceful and credible local government election on October 17, 2026.
This is as the Kogi State Commissioner For Police and the Chairman of the ICCES, Naziru Bello Kankarfi, disclosed that vigilante and hunters would not be allowed to take part in the 2026 Kogi State Local Government Election.
The Commissioner of Police maintained that the providing Security during the Local Government Election remains the core mandate of all the Federal Government Security Agencies in the State.
The KOSIEC Chairman who also double as the Co-Chairman of the Committee made the appeal at the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES), held at the headquarters of the Police Command, Lokoja.
The ICCES Committee for the 2026 Kogi State Local Government Election is made up of the Immigration,
FRSC, DSS, Customs, Nigerian Correctional Service and the NDLEA.
The KOSIEC Chairman highlighted the importance of identifying potential security threats, mapping out flashpoints, and guaranteeing voter safety.
The KOSIEC Chairman disclosed that the the Commission is working to strengthen synergy and real-time communication among agencies, with a focus on impartiality, rule of law, and human rights.
He said the ICCES
meeting aims to produce actionable outcomes to enhance preparedness for the elections, reflecting the will of Kogi State people.
He assured of KOSIEC’s full cooperation and readiness to work with stakeholders to ensure successful elections.
The Commissioner of Police reiterate the commitment of the Police and other security agencies working in the State of adequate and effective security before, during and after the Council election, pointing out that adequate strategies is been put in place for a hitch free election.
He assured of the ICCES Committee’s readiness to security that will make the election credible.
