CLERGY CONDEMNS YEARS OF NEGLECT AS MOPA ROAD DETERIORATES, DEMANDS SWIFT GOVERNMENT INTERVENTION

A Mopa-born Nigerian-American cleric, Rev’d. Dr. Francis K. F. Iselowo. BCC. JP, has voiced strong outrage over the deteriorating condition of the Mopa road in Mopamuro Local Government Area, Nigeria, describing the situation as a glaring symbol of infrastructural neglect and governmental inaction.
Speaking during a telephone interview with journalists, the cleric did not mince words as he criticized what he termed the “prolonged abandonment” of a critical road project that directly affects the lives, safety, and economic survival of thousands of residents and commuters.
According to him, the road, which once served as a major access route for communities within the axis, has now become a nightmare for motorists and pedestrians alike, riddled with potholes, erosion-prone sections, and near impassable stretches—conditions that are expected to worsen drastically as the rainy season sets in.
“This is not just an inconvenience; it is a humanitarian and economic concern,” he stated. “The continued neglect of this road is a clear indication that the suffering of the people is being overlooked.”
Francis Kofoworola further lamented that residents, farmers, traders, and students are the worst hit, as the road remains a major link for transportation of agricultural produce, access to education, and general mobility within and beyond the region.
He stressed that failure to urgently complete the road project could lead to increased road accidents, economic stagnation, and further isolation of the affected communities.
The cleric therefore issued a strong call to the Kogi State Government and the Federal Government of Nigeria to take immediate and decisive action, warning that continued silence or delay would only deepen public frustration and hardship.
He specifically appealed to Ahmed Usman Ododo and Bola Ahmed Tinubu to treat the issue as a matter of urgent national and state importance, and to ensure that all necessary resources are mobilized for the prompt reconstruction and completion of the road.
Describing the road as a strategic economic corridor, he noted that it serves as a vital connection between Kwara State and Lokoja, the capital of Kogi State, thereby playing a crucial role in inter-state commerce, transportation, and regional integration.
He warned that allowing such an important route to collapse would not only affect Mopa communities but also have ripple effects on trade and movement across adjoining states.
“The people of Mopa and its environs deserve better than this level of neglect,” he added. “Good governance must reflect in visible and impactful infrastructure that improves the daily lives of the people.”
The cleric urge relevant authorities, contractors, and stakeholders to act with urgency and accountability, emphasizing that the time for promises has passed and that the people are now demanding tangible results.
It is time for our Okun Politicians to rise above and beyond political sentiments by mobilizing Federal and State governments support for the construction of the road since “Charity begins at home” the cleric concluded.
