As Kogi State inches toward the 2027 general elections, the conversation in Kabba/Bunu Constituency 1 has shifted. It is no longer about party logos or big billboards. In homes, market squares, and youth hangouts across the constituency, one name keeps coming up with a sense of ownership and pride: Hon. Emmanuel Esenyi, popularly called ‘1212’.
For many constituents, the PDP candidate represents more than politics. He represents a relationship. A man who has walked with them, run errands for them, and stood with them when it mattered most.
What makes 1212 different, supporters say, is his rare capacity to build bridges beyond party lines. While he is flying the PDP flag, he has made deep inroads into other political camps and earned respect across divides. That goodwill has positioned him as a candidate for all in a constituency that is tired of bitterness and division. As outgoing PDP Youth Leader for Kabba/Bunu LGA, he helped amplify the voice of young people and strengthen party unity at the grassroots. “We have worked together to amplify the voice of the youth, mobilize support, and strengthen party unity at the grassroots. I am proud of what we have accomplished together,” he said at his handover. The Kogi West PDP Candidate, Hon. TJ Yusuf also described him as “a pillar of strength, support, and progress” and “a dynamic and dependable son” whose dedication continues to inspire the political family.
Among the middle-aged, he is remembered as the dependable one who has always been available to help. Among the elders, he is seen as a man of integrity, one “who has washed his hands clean, has come to equity.” That reputation matters in a time when trust in politicians is at an all-time low.
His generosity is another reason his name travels fast. Constituents say 1212 is not the kind of politician who will allow office to blindfold him. Over time he has shown that his constituents are his major preoccupation. A community leader in Kabba noted, “In this era where many politicians love themselves more than the people, 1212 is a rare breed. His preoccupation has always been the people first. That is why we trust him with our mandate.” That sentiment is echoed in wards across the constituency, where people talk less about party and more about the man who has carried their burden.
When he picked his Expression of Interest and Nomination forms to contest for the Kogi State House of Assembly, Kabba/Bunu Constituency 1, he framed it as a people-driven journey. “This step marks the beginning of a people-driven political journey anchored on responsive representation, inclusive governance, and sustainable development,” he said. He promised to focus on effective legislation that addresses development gaps, constituency representation that is inclusive and people-centered, and accountability that ensures transparency and measurable impact. “This journey is not just a political contest but a collective movement for better representation. The task is great, but our resolve is greater,” he added.
Political watchers also note his strategic exposure. His participation in national youth leadership conversations has given him access to wider networks, while his emphasis on structure and grassroots organization sets him apart from celebrity aspirants. His courage to challenge established figures has further endeared him to a base hungry for bold but responsible leadership.
The mood in Kabba/Bunu 1 ahead of 2027 is clear. People want accessibility, humility, and a representative who answers calls. With internal disagreements already reported in the ruling APC, many believe the disunity creates an opening that a grassroots mobilizer like 1212 is best placed to take advantage of.
For the constituents, the calculation is simple. 2027 is not about party in particular, but about the person who has felt their pains and stood with them through thick and thin. “Come rain, come shine, we are solidly behind him. He is the man to beat,” said a stakeholder in Bunu.
With bridges built across divides, youths mobilized, elders trusting, and a message centered on service over self, Hon. Emmanuel Esenyi ‘1212’ enters the race not just as a candidate, but as the benchmark against which others in Kabba/Bunu Constituency 1 will be measured.
