The Senator representing Edo Central Senatorial District, Joseph Ikpea, on Tuesday formally notified the Edo State Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) of his intention to commence his campaign.

Ikpea made this known during a visit to the party’s secretariat in Benin City, where he met with members of the state leadership to communicate his decision ahead of any public declaration.

Addressing party officials, the senator said it was both appropriate and necessary to first inform the party of his plans, describing the move as a demonstration of loyalty and respect for party structures.

“You all know how we started the senatorial race together and, by the grace of God, with your support and prayers, I am today a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he said. “It is only proper that I inform the party first of my intention to flag off my campaign.”

Speaking with journalists after the meeting, Ikpea reiterated that consulting the party leadership before making any formal announcement was in line with party tradition and discipline.

“It is expedient for every loyal party member on the APC platform to consult and obtain the consent and blessing of the leadership before making any official declaration,” he said, adding that he had fulfilled that obligation.

The lawmaker expressed appreciation for the support and encouragement he received from the party leadership and reaffirmed his commitment to effective representation, unity within the party, and the continued growth of the APC in Edo Central and the state at large.

In his response, the Edo APC Secretary, Lawrence Okah, commended Ikpea for prioritising the party in his political decisions, describing him as a committed and loyal member.

“We appreciate you for putting the party first by informing us of your intention to commence your campaign,” Okah said. “You have demonstrated that you are indeed a true party man.”

He further assured the senator of the party’s full backing, noting that the APC would mobilise its structures across the 51 wards of Edo Central Senatorial District to ensure a successful campaign.

Okah also expressed confidence in Ikpea’s performance, stating that the party remained proud of his contributions and would continue to support his political aspirations.
