2027: COMR. HASSAN SHUAIBU OHIMOZI, DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH KOGI WEST HAS BEEN WAITING FOR

For many in Kogi West Senatorial District, the name Comr. Hassan Shuaibu Ohimozi, is beginning to shift the political equation. The Kogi LGA-born Senatorial aspirant under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has declared his interest to serve, and residents say the move is a natural outcome of years of consistent work, dedication, and grassroots engagement.
Long before the 2027 elections became a topic of discussion, Comr. Hassan had already built a reputation for delivering tangible results.
His interventions in infrastructure include attracting hospitals, building primary schools, and awarding scholarships to countless students in tertiary institutions.
He has also facilitated the posting of over 300 NYSC indigenes of the state to safe and secure locations, addressing a concern that has long troubled families across the district.
His influence is deeply rooted across Lokoja and Kogi LGA, while his political structure extends into the Okun-speaking areas of Kogi West. Politically, he has traversed the PDP, APC, and now the ADC, positioning himself as a bridge between the old and young political class. In doing so, he has opened a new frontier for many who once believed politics was the exclusive preserve of the old brigade.
Since his aspiration became public, Comr. Gimba has altered the dynamics of Kogi West politics. Young people, in particular, see in him a reflection of their own aspirations — someone who understands that the future can only be secured when their generation has a voice at the decision-making table.
His consistent women empowerment and youth programs have become a legacy that many say remains unrivaled in the district. This selfless service has earned him the tag of the “new kid on the block” for Kogi West.
While infrastructure remains a visible area where Hon. Hassan has scored excellently, he insists that true representation goes beyond roads, boreholes, and buildings. His vision is to be a legislator who carries the voice of the people into lawmaking and holds power accountable.
At the core of that vision is integrity and accountability. He has made it clear that constituency funds, if entrusted to him, will be managed with transparency.
He presents himself as a leader who is open to criticism and consistent in aligning public statements with private actions — a quality he believes is missing in politics where projects are often reduced to tools of patronage. This, he says, is the narrative he intends to change.
Comr. Hassan does not mince words about knowing the specific problems of the people he seeks to represent, not just the headline issues. He has pledged to maintain a regular presence on the floor of the Senate, listening to farmers, traders, teachers, youth, and traditional leaders, and translating their concerns into legislative priorities, bills, and oversight questions. For him, representation must be real and grounded, not based on assumptions.
He also emphasizes legislative competence as a non-negotiable requirement. His ability to read, draft, and scrutinize bills, understand policy implications, and engage effectively in committee work sets him apart. He has vowed not to be the type of representative who only appears for ribbon-cutting ceremonies but lacks the capacity to influence budget allocations or amendments. For Hon. Hassan, building alliances across party lines is part of the competence needed to deliver results for Kogi West.
On advocacy, he has committed to speaking up for marginalized and vulnerable groups who lack a platform. This includes challenging bad policies, questioning executive actions, and defending the rights of the oppressed without fear of backlash. Silence in the face of injustice, he argues, is abdication.
Comr. Hassan recognizes that legislators serve as a check on the executive. His priority will be to track how public funds are spent, question contracts, and ensure that ministries and agencies deliver on their mandates. Strong oversight, he argues, is the antidote to waste, corruption, and abandoned projects. Among his immediate legislative priorities will be the state’s federal roads, like the Lokoja Abuja road, alongside rigorous budget tracking and monitoring for the benefit of the people.
Beyond reacting to immediate problems, he promises to anticipate future challenges such as youth unemployment, climate change, education gaps, and security threats, and to push for policies that address them before they escalate into crises.
Accessibility remains another pillar of his approach. He believes people must feel their representative is reachable through regular town halls and open communication channels. Humility, he says, is key — a leader must admit when something isn’t working instead of hiding behind arrogance, which only widens the gap between the people and their representatives.
Above all, Comr. Hassan insists that a legislator’s duty extends beyond handouts or projects. His focus will be on building human capital through skills training, education support, entrepreneurship programs, and civic awareness. He believes that empowered citizens are the ones who sustain development long after one term ends.
Infrastructure answers today’s needs, but character, competence, and commitment protect the people’s interests for the long haul. Comr. Hassan, embodies these qualities — a leader with a proven record of service, a bridge across generations and political divides, and a voice willing to stand for justice and accountability. If elected under the African Democratic Congress, Kogi West may finally have a representative who is more than a contractor of projects, but a custodian of the people’s mandate.
