2025 FLOOD PREPAREDNESS: KOGI SEMA ENGAGES CRITICAL STAKEHOLDERS IN DISASTER MANAGEMENT HELD AT EMERGENCY OPERATION CENTRE, DEPUTY GOVERNOR’S CONFERENCE HALL, LOKOJA
The emergency responders have actively participated in a strategic meeting on 2025 flood preparedness. The meeting was organized by the Kogi State Emergency Management Agency (KOSEMA) in collaboration with the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
In his marks, the Head of NEMA Abuja operations office, Alhaji Zakari Abubakar, commended the Executive Secretary Kogi SEMA, Alh Mouktar Atimah, and his team for the timely intiative, especially as the season enters the peak of heavy downpour. He emphasized on collaboration and timely information sharing in reducing the impact of floods on vulnerable populations.
The Executive Secretary KOSEMA, Alh Mouktar Atimah, appreciated the workaholic Chief Servant of the State, His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, for his continued support and commitment to disaster risk reduction in the state.
He commended NEMA and other stakeholders, emphasizing the alignment of diverse expertise and ideas to develop a comprehensive flood preparedness strategy to fostering sustainable development and effective disaster management.
During this meeting, various stakeholds reiterated on the importance of collaboration, flood preparedness, mitigation plans, and recovery strategies.
The key resolutions at the meeting ahead of impending flood included:
i. Formation of sub-committe, saddled within a stipulated time to develop an “evacuation document plan”.
ii. Strengthening inter-agency collaboration for resource mobilization.
iii. Effective camp management.
iv. Deploying security apparatus to camps.
v. Deploying health units to camps.
vi. Distribution of relief materials.
vii. Mapping of all flood-prone communities, etc.
The event brought together critical stakeholders in disaster management, including the representatives from the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), various Ministries, different Security Agencies, National Inland Waterways, National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA), Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPADEC), Federal and State Fire Service, Ngerian Red Cross, International Organization on Migration, Community-based organizations, traditional rulers, and local government representatives, among others.
