The Executive Director,
Conscience for Human Rights and Conflict Resolution(CHRCR), Idris Miliki Abdul, has reiterated the need for the voices of citizens to be strengthened against anti-corruption and the demand for accountability from Government, appointed and elected Representatives.
Comr. Idris Miliki, made the disclosure at a One Day Meeting with CSOs Partners on Prioritizing Anti-Corruption and Accountability issues towards 2023 Elections held at Halims Hotel, Ganaja Junction, Lokoja, Kogi State, said the CHRCR strongly advocates the need to promote reforms and institution of anti-corruption.
As a way of promoting anti-corruption and accountability, Comr. Miliki called on citizens and Frontline candidates of Political parties to prioritize anti-corruption, accountability and inclusion reforms and commitment.
While noting that citizens groups and election Support coalition should canvas for affirmative action and Social inclusion, lamented that 2023 remains a defining moment for Nigerians to make informed choices based on anti-corruption and accountability.
The Executive Director called on CSO, Citizens to demand reforms towards improving Electoral accountability as well as call for more participation of vulnerable and marginalized groups like women, youths and persons living with disabilities.
The Executive Director called on the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission to after one year of conducting the last Local Government election make the results public, described the activities of the commission as far from being accountable and laced with corruption.
Comr. Miliki urged the media who would be in the forefront covering Political parties convention’s and congresses to ask questions on anti-corruption and accountability, said the country cannot continue in the same old ways of Electoral corruption as a way of strengthening Democracy.
The Executive Director CHRCR frowned at the Kogi State House of Assembly not allowing for Public hearings on all bills, lamented that it was unfortunate that there was no citizens Participation in the 2022 Kogi State Budget.
The One Day Meeting organised by CHRCR, for CSOs and other Partners on Prioritizing Anti-Corruption and Accountability issues towards 2023 Elections is with Support from Mac-authur Foundation and in partnership with CISLAC, advocated on the need for women to have adequate represention in the 2023 election, particularly in the State House of Assembly.
