2023: C21 Forum Laments Outrageous Amount For Purchase of Political Parties Nomination Form … says action will breed thieves in politics and democracy

The Convener Confluence 21 Forum has described the outrageous amount fixed for the sales of Nomination Form by the All Progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party as an attempt to emasculate young people interested in Politics from Participation.

The Convener of the C21 Forum, Comr Ben Jerry has lamented the outrageous amount said it would only breed thieves in politics and democracy, described the action as unacceptable.

Comr Jerry said if Young Graduates who are just starting life but interested in Politics are made to pay N2million for House of Assembly forms in Politics, wondered where such Persons can raise such monies.

He said from all the major Political parties have done, it would only take the old Politicians who have stolen from the coffers of Government to buy the forms, described it as unfortunate.

He lamented that in Nigeria where an individual works for 35 years, said it would be difficult having people save money to purchase forms for N100million, N50m, N20m and N10m, lamented that Politics leading to good governance has been mortgaged, would lead to corruption.

He urged the major Political parties to have a rethink as there decision clearly point to a calculated attempt to ostracize young and sincere Political Participation.

He lamented that all the jubilation that greeted the signing of the not too young to run bill has been buried by the high cost of buying nomination form, pointing out that Politics is not only about buying forms as more is also required to run campaigns and other related programmes.

Comr. Jerry maintained that a wrong signal has been sent to the young Nigerians to engage in corrupt tendencies as means of making money to contest elections, which ought not be so, call on the Political parties to have a rethink for wider and inclusive Participation in the 2023 General elections.
