NAS Offers Free Medical Service To 550 Indigents Persons In Ugiekha, Edo State

A human rights and social justice organisation, National Association of Seadogs (NAS), on Saturday offered free medical service to about 550 indigents people of Ugiekha Community, South Ibie in Etsako West Local Government of Edo.

The event, tagged: “Free Medical Mission ” is organised by the Hybrid Deck (Edo North Chapter) in partnership with World Mama Mission, Canada (Represented by Mr. & Dr. (Mrs.) Christopher Asapokhai).

Speaking at the event, Mr Dirisu Odion, NAS Regional Vice President, Region 3 (Edo, Ekiti, and Ondo) said over 550 persons benefited from the free medical outreach.

Odion said the free medical programme is sponsored by Mr and Dr. (Mrs) Christopher Osiregbemeh Asapokhai in memory of late Alhaji Yakubu Ikerodah.

 

“This program is a legacy to Alhaji Yakubu Ikerodah’s philanthropy and support for his community.

The NAS regional vice president applauded the initiative of Mr. Chris Osiregbemhe Asapokhai) and his wife Dr. (Mrs.) Fatima Asapokhai for their humanitarian service.

He encouraged other well meaning associations to take up good community initiative that meet the need of the people.

The Capoon, Hybrid Deck, Edo North Chapter, Mr Christopher Ikponwonsa, said the organisation is aimed at promoting the well-being of indigent persons at the grassroots by granting them easier access to free and quality healthcare.

Ikponwonsa underscored the importance of health to the well being, saying that health is wealth.

The capoon said that the outreach to indigent people in key areas included general consultation, checking of high blood pressure, sugar test hepatitis B, C test,free eye examination with free eye glasses as well as the distribution of free drugs.

“During the exercise, medical volunteers carry out diagnosis, treatment and medical procedures while drugs and other medical consumables were also given to patients free of charge.”Ikponwonsa said.

He urged communities to imbibe personal hygiene and environmental cleanliness as preventive measures against an outbreak.

The village head of Ugiekha, Chief Cyprian Akhalu thanked seadogs and world Mama Mission for the gesture.

“This is a great initiative and we appreciate NAS and Mr. & Dr. (Mrs.) Christopher Osiregbemhe Asapokhai for the free outreach,” he said.

Akhalu, however, urged the people of the community to continue to check their health status for healthy living.
