Start-Rite Schools, VANEF, Empower Orphans with Skills for a Brighter Future
The Interact Club Students of Start-Rite Schools, one of the top educational institutions in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), organised an outreach programme on skill acquisition that impacted about 30 orphans at the Hope for Survival Orphanage, Gishiri, Abuja.
This was disclosed in a press statement issued by the Media and Communications Unit of Start-Rite Schools.
According to the statement, the skill acquisition programme for the orphans was organised in partnership with the Victor and Amaka Ndoma-Egba Foundation (VANEF).
The statement reads: “In a heartwarming act of service and compassion, Interact Club Students from Start-Rite Schools, Abuja, stepped outside their classrooms to touch lives in a profound way. Partnering with the Victor and Amaka Ndoma-Egba Foundation (VANEF), these young changemakers organised an outreach programme at Hope for Survival Orphanage, Gishiri, impacting the lives of about 30 orphans.
“This initiative was not just about giving but about creating opportunities. Through interactive workshops, the children at the orphanage acquired practical skills such as bead making, crocheting, tie-dye, and creative writing – skills that hold the potential to help them become independent and resourceful. These activities encouraged creativity and built confidence among the children, offering them a sense of purpose and possibility. Also, books, writing materials, and food items to address the children’s immediate needs were donated. The joy on the children’s faces and the gratitude expressed by their caregivers reflected the significance of this outreach.

A representative of VANEF commented on the initiative, saying, “Seeing Start-Rite students take the initiative in giving back to the community is inspiring. This outreach is part of VANEF’s broader mission to empower individuals, promote welfare, and encourage inter-faith and inter-ethnic harmony. We will continue to facilitate and support projects that uplift the underprivileged, providing them with tools and opportunities to thrive.”
Hope for Survival Orphanage, which provides care and support to children who have lost their parents, expressed sincere appreciation for the outreach.
The administrator highlighted the impact of the skills workshops, noting that “The skills imparted would empower the children with avenues for creative expression and even potential income in the future.
“For Start-Rite, ensuring that students develop a sense of service to themselves and others is part of the school’s vision. The learning objectives are deliberately designed to among other things, nurture empathy, leadership, and a drive to make a positive difference.
