Kogi Commissioner, Engr. Abubakar Ohere Elected to Fellowship Grade of Nigerian Society of Engineers.


 

The Council of the Nigerian Society of Engineers has elected Engr. Abubakar Ohere, Kogi State Commissioner for Works and Housing to the fellowship grade of the society.

The NSE in a statement copied Thenigerianpost Newspaper, said the conferment of the fellowship holds on Monday 16th November at the international Conference Center Abuja.

The fellowship of the NSE is the society’s highest title and honour as far as the Engineering Profession is concerned.

Born in July 1966 in Okene, Kogi State, Engr. Abubakar Ohere commenced his sojourn into western education in 1975 at the popular St. Andrew’s School, Okene.

In 1979, he proceeded to the   Lennon Memorial College Ageva where he distinguished himself.

In his quest to satisfy his unquenchable thirst for knowledge, he sought and obtained admission into Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin to study Engineering course from 1987 to1989 where he bagged certificate of National Diploma in Metallurgical Engineering.

At the end of his course in Kwara State, Engineer Ohere turned down several offers of job for further training at the Federal Polytechnic, ldah from 1990 to1992.

In order to have a taste of National and International training in Mining Engineering after twelve months of compulsory service to the nation, the Ghana University of Mines and Technology in 2009 did not hesitate in admitting him to undergo Proficiency training in Explosives and Blasting Technology.

On his return to the shores of Nigeria, his father land, Engineer   Ohere sought to Master his chosen   career in the Federal University of Technology, Akure where he presently has Master Degree in Mining Engineering (M. Eng); Surface Mining Engineering Option.

With a burning desire to be well grounded in Engineering, Engr. Ohere, a prolific researcher has   attended several workshops in the   United States, Poland, Ghana, Australia, China and Nigeria.

Engineer Ohere has presented many scholarly and well-researched paper in different fora. These includes: Feasibility Study Report on the technical requirements/cost for the setting up of a small scale sized Mining and granite quarrying ( capacity 80 -120 tons per hour) in Nigeria, presented to the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria ( COREN ) at Merit House, Abuja in 2013.

Earlier in 2012, Engineer Ohere presented a paper in Perth Australia titled “Nigeria Mineral Potential and Coal Resources Development” and several others.

He is a registered member of professional bodies like Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigerian (COREN), R.27,382, Council of Nigerian Mining Engineers and   Geoscientists (COMEG) GEM00082,  Corporate Member, Nigerian Society of Mining Engineers (NSME). M-20150534, Corporate Member Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society   (NMGS) C-06-3156 and Corporate Member International Society of Explosive Engineers (ISEE), 2014.

Engineer Ohere secured pensionable appointment with the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development shortly after the mandatory National Youth Service Corps in 1993.

In the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development, he served meritoriously as a Field Engineer and rose to management position, before his appointment as Special Adviser to His Excellency, Alh. Yahaya Bello in January 2016.

He is an administrator par excellence; a good listener; father   of all; hospitable; ambitious;  tender-hearted;  tolerant; prudent;   courageous; determined; and a   great philanthropist whose act of magnanimity has touched people from within and outside his locality.
