The Speaker, Edo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Marcus Onobun has praised the fatherly role played by His Royal Majesty, Omo N’ Oba N’ Edo, Uku Akpolokpolor, Oba Ewuare II, the Oba of Benin Kingdom towards the peaceful coexistence of Edo people both at home and in the Diaspora.
Hon. Onobun made this during courtesy visit by members of the Edo State House of Assembly at the Oba palace in Benin.
He also congratulated the traditional ruler on the successful Igue Festival and promised to always consult the palace towards the good governance of the State.
According to Speaker, “there are a lot of other things and areas we need to look into based in the reality on ground to strengthen the implementation of the laws”.
Responding, Oba Ewuare II appreciated the lawmakers for the visit and demanded for the quick implementation of the Private Property Protection Laws (PPPL) in Edo State.
The Benin monarch also thanked the legislators and the executive governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki for the enactment of the law and giving legal backing to his proclamation on matters connected therein.
“You should not entertain any Bill that will militate against the traditional structure of Edo State…we are watching 24 hours”, the Oba advised
The Benin monarch advised the lawmakers to embrace peaceful means of resolving conflicts instead of resorting to self help and kicked against thuggery deployed by some Nigerian lawmakers and politicians in settling political differences.
“I am not happy with the way lawmakers throw chairs and fight during their sittings by throwing , Sometimes, one shivers down the spine that you will begin to ask what kind of laws they make.”
