BERWO Foundation Will Continue To Create Awareness On Importance of Breastfeeding–Ebonyi First Lady

The founder of better health for rural women,children and internally displaced persons foundation(BERWO) and Wife of the Governor of Ebonyi State Chief (Mrs) Mary Maudline Uzomaka Nwifuru has said that BERWO foundation would continue to create awareness on the importance of breastfeeding and ensure better health for the citizens as health care remains the utmost priority of the present adminstration led by her dear husband in the State.
The Governor’s wife disclosed this during the grand finale of the 2024 breastfeeding week at the Women Development Centre Abakaliki,the State Capital.
Mrs Nwifuru who describe breastfeeding as the most natural and beneficial practices for both mother and child, revealed that breastfeeding provides essential nutrients, strengthened the immune system and foster a deep bond between mother and baby.
She noted that the benefit of breastfeeding extended beyond the immediate health of a child, thereby contributing to the long term well being of Communities and enhance sustainable development of the society.
According to Mrs Nwifuru” we recognize that breastfeeding is not always easy. Many mothers face challenges, including a lack of knowledge, social stigma, and inadequate support from their families, workplaces, and communities. It is our collective responsibility to address these barriers and ensure that every mother in Ebonyi State has the support she needs to breastfeed successfully”

She used the opportunity and commended all the mothers who have embraced exclusive breastfeeding despite the challenges and urged them to sustain the tempo for the good health of their babies.

However, she extolled the State Commissioner for health Dr Moses Ekuma, healthcare workers, volunteers, and organizations for working tirelessly to promote and support breastfeeding in the State.
Earlier in his remark, the State Commissioner for Health Dr. Moses Ekuma represented by SA to the Governor on primary health Dr. Sabinus Nwibo commended Mrs Nwifuru for always championing a live touching projects in the State, noting that the benefit of breastfeeding can not be overemphasized.
He called on mothers to ensure their babies are well breastfed.
The representative of USAID Mr Uchenna Onwe and executive secretary of Ebonyi State Primary health care development agency Dr. Emeka Ovuoba charged mothers in the State to embrace exclusive Breastfeeding to improve the health indices of their children.
One of the mothers who attended the event Mrs Kamani Jenny said that she gave her baby exclusive breastfeeding for six months and that had made the child not to sick for the past ten months and encouraged her follow mothers to toe the same path to improve the health status of their children.
