A former Chairman, National Youth Council of Nigeria, (NYCN), Kogi State chapter, Engr. Godwin Emmanuel has fired back at the incumbent executive in the State led by Comrade Ben Jerry for announcing their suspension from the body.
Speaking to Nigeria Newsmen on Friday, Emmanuel said the NYCN constitution does not give him such power to carry out the actions.
He asserted that the embattled NYCN Chairman in Kogi State by his action has operated on illegality.
“Narrating the true situation of things as it concerns NYCN constitution, Emmanuel said” I am not an exco under the current Chairman. The Constitution does not even give him such power. We have a management meeting.
“The Management is the second highest decision making of the NYCN outside the Congress which is the highest decision making body. We sat and constituted an Electoral committee for Local Government congresses in Kogi East.
“When we constituted it, Local, Zonal and Central, all the former State Chairmen, six of us including the State Chairman, we were in the central Electoral committee while the other stakeholders are in the zonal which is the Local committee.
” We are supposed to handle election in Kogi East, and we went there. He now said he will set up a three Man committee so that they will take care of his own interest in Idah, Igalamela and Ibaji.
“We went there and conducted election. If two people are contesting, all you need to do is to do election for them. We went their and conducted free, fair and credible election and winners emerged.
“Now, he sent some people to Idah and raised some people hand that they won. I now said he doesn’t have such power to set up a three Man committee. It is only the management that have the power to set up another committee outside the one that has been set up for the election.
” Everything he is doing is unconstitutional. Even the list he sent out as Chairman is unconstitutional. We will soon get the full list from the Central Election Committee. We have video evidence where elections was conducted. In Igalamela, where election took place, the embattled Chairman was defeated. All his actions announcing suspension is unconstitutional, null and void.
The former NYCN boss urged members of the Council to remain calm adding that they will continue to work in accordance with the NYCN constitution.
It could be recalled that the Chairman of NYCN in Kogi State Comrade Ben Jerry in a statement on Friday announced the suspension of four persons from the Youth body.
Those said to have been purportedly suspended are; Hon. Isah Emmanuel Ojobunwene, Destiny Ali Keller, Sunday Alih, and Godwin Emmanuel.
Similarly, arising from the NYCN Council of Elders, Kogi State Chapter meeting, said the current Chairman of the Council has no powers to suspend the mentioned persons without the consent of the Management of the Body.
They added that both Engr Godwin S.B. Emmanuel (a reputed ex-State Chairman) and Isah Emmanuel Ojobunwene Mario ( a reputed ex-State Secretary) are no members of his Exco in the Council. Therefore, described the Chairman’s actions and publication as ultra-vires, null and void.
