Yagba West LGA is by all standard a very sophisticated one. The level of political awareness and dexterity required to survive politics in Yagba West is top class.
The race for the APC ticket has further made it clear that the people of Yagba West are very assertive and clear to purpose especially as regards their preferences vis a vis the rotational arrangement is the LGA. It is a known fact within the LGA that it is the turn of Eri Ward to produce the next House of Assembly, no wonder the only aspirant in the PDP which is the major opposition party in the state is from that ward.
Of the 3 aspirants, two of them are from Odo Eri ward, namely; Mrs Tayo Shinkaiye Agboola and Mr Adebayo Shola, the third is from Igbaruku/Iyamerin Ward; Oshaloto Yemisi who is famed to be the most unpopular of the three aspirants. Beyond being out of touch with the local politics as well as coming from a ward that is not suppose to benefit from the rotational arrangement obtainable in the LGA, she is said to be a candidate forced on the people by the powers that be.
Mr Adebayo on the other hand is an experienced politician who has in the past attempted to contest for the same position many years ago. He understands the local politics and coming from Odo Eri ward is an added advantage. One of his challenges is that he’s considered a part of the older generation who should not be vying for a position like State House of Assembly which is considered a role for younger and more vibrant youths.
Mrs Tayo Shinkaiye Agboola represents a breathe of fresh air and the most credible option because she is a new entrant to politics with friends and valuable relationship across the LGA that can help her both in the primary and general election. Also the fact that she’s from the Odo Eri ward also gives her added advantage as the people of the LGA has zoned the position to that ward. Another advantage is the policy of Governor Yahaya Bello to ensure gender balance and inclusiveness in governance.
She’s young and articulate. All options considered, she seem to be the best for the party and the people of Yagba West LGA.
