World Teachers Day: Kogi NUT Demand Enhanced Professional Allowances.


 

The Kogi State Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, Comr. Thomas Ayodele has called for the speedy conclusion of all cases of Teachers in the uncleared list of the State Government as well as implementation of teachers enhanced professional allowances.

Recall that several years after the staff audit exercise by the Kogi State Government, many teachers are yet to be cleared, thus leading to understaffing of teachers in primary school in the State.

Comr. Thomas while making his remarks at the occasion to mark the World Teachers Day Celebration, with the theme ” Teachers at the the heart of Education Recovery”, appealed and equally called on the Government to make the provision of instructional materials to primary schools a priority.

Comr. Thomas charged the State Government to release the circular for the extension of teachers retirement age from 60 to 65 and teaching service year from 35 to 40.

The State NUT Chairman lauded the role of teachers in the socio economic development of the State, said the need for training and retraining, implementation of 2.7% teachers enhanced professional allowances approved since 2008 but yet to be implemented as key motivation drivers for teachers.

The NUT Chairman called for the lifting of the embargo on promotion and Annual incremental rate for primary school teachers as well as the recruitment of teachers as urged needs needed in the State to reposition the Education Sector, particularly the primary schools sector.
