Workers’ Day; MHWUN chairman Begs Bello to implement PHC under one Roof.

The Chairman of Kogi state Council of the Medical, Health Workers Union of Nigeria (MHWUN) Comrade Amari Gabriel has appealed to Kogi state governor Alhaji Yahaya Bello to urgently implement the primary Health Care under one roof Act to enable his members earn salaries and emoluments like the other professionals in the health sector.

This is just as he urged the government to quickly resolve the knotty issues contained in the 21 day ultimatum given by his union to avert industrial disharmony.

The Chairman gave the appeal on Saturday on the sidelines of this year Workers Day celebration held in Lokoja Kogi state.

Amari who commended governor Yahaya Bello for his courage to assent to the primary Health Care under one roof bill passed by the State Assembly, urged him to prove cynics wrong by setting machinery in motion for its implemention.

He enumerated that by implementing the act , his members especially those in the Local Government Councils would heave sigh of relief from percentage salaries that has reduced them to poorest of the poor.

Comrade Amari admonished workers to always consider their vantage position in the total well-being of humanity to keep faith in God ,while discharging their services.

He stated that the present challenges faced by the workers in the state would soon be over assuring them that better “workers day” celebration lies ahead.

” Your services is not only to humanity but also to God. I know we are passing through hardest period in our working lives, but all I know is that , these challenges would soon be over.

” Some of My members who are providing health services to the people at the grassroots have not been treated fairly by the government. I know you have been subjected to percentage salaries, which often hovers between 20, 30 percent which cannot take you home to talk of meeting essential needs, however , God is not oblivious of your condition.

” I implore you to continue to give your best and God who is the rewarder of those who diligently serve him will meet us at appropriate time. He sermonised.

He called on the state government to be alive to her promise of improving the welfare of the Primary Health care workers at the Local Government Councils by promptly implement the Primary Health care under one roof Act.

While acknowledging the magnanimity of Gov. Bello for signing the bill, reminded him of the importance of the medical and health workers in the implementation of government health policies which always put them in the front lines in medical emergencies.
