The Kogi State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Hon. Wemi Jones, FCIB, has declared that the state have conducted a seamless and revealing interview exercise for prospective secondary school teachers in the state.
Jones made the declaration while speaking with newsmen at the end of a week-long interviews conducted for prospective secondary school teachers, at GYB Model Science Secondary School, Lokoja on Wednesday.
”To the glory of God, I will say the process has been seamless and quite revealing”, he said.
According to him, the results from the amptitudes test alone is not enough in determining those to be recruited, hence the need for the oral interviews.
He said the oral interview process had further given an opportunity to truly access the preparedness and capacity of the prospective teachers for secondary schools in the state.
”We find some people who did extremely poorly in the oral interview but scored high marks in the amptitude test.
”We also have some applicants who are extremely brilliant and intelligent, which give us a lot of hope that Kogi is extremely blessed with the right calibre of people that have the capacity to teach in our secondary schools.
”So, I am quite excited,” he said.
He noted that the next line of action was to put the results of the interviews together in comparison with the scores at amptitude test level, to come out with the final results.
He noted that a Committee had been set up by the Governor, who are working with STESCOM and the Ministry of Education to determine the best teachers to be recruited.
Also speaking, Dr Gabriel Ottah, the Interview Coordinator, said a total of 12 panels conducted the interviews, saying it was a great success without any form of political interference.
He said the interview was to get the best teachers to teach in the secondary schools, who could effectively impact the acquired knowledge over the years as well as the teaching methods.
”There should be a comparative analysis between your writing and oral delivery as a teacher, and I must say everything was transparent and fair,” he said.
Ottah, who is the Special Adviser to the Governor on Information and communications, commended the governor and the commissioner for ensuring smooth, open, transparent and all inclusive recruitment exercise.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner for Education led some of his counterparts in the state to jointly monitor the final conducts of the teachers’ recruitment exercise.
The commissioners include: Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo; Environment, Victor Omofaiye; Agriculture, David Apeh; Women Affairs, Fatima Buba; and Culture and Tourism, Isah Idachaba; .
Others are: Commerce and Industry, Gabriel Olofu; Youths and Sports Development, Idris Musa; and Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, Bashir Mohammed, among others.
