Water Resources Commissioner Inaugurates Lokoja LGA CVR Committees, As APC Tasks Committees To Mobilize Residents For Registration.

The Kogi State Commissioner For Water Resources, Engr. Yahaya MD Farouk, has Inaugurated the Lokoja LGA All Progressives Congress Continuous Voters Registration Committees.

The Inauguration of the CVR Committees followed the directives of Gov. Usman Ahmed Ododo, directing all Commissioners to go back to their Local Government and mobilize citizens in the ongoing nationwide continuous voter registration.

The CVR initiative, in partnership with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), is aimed at encouraging residents, especially first-time voters and those without valid Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs), to register and be eligible to participate in future elections.

The inauguration ceremony took place today, Wednesday at the APC Secretariat, with party leaders, community representatives, and political stakeholders in attendance.

Inaugurating the main and Ward Committees, the Commissioner underscored the importance of voter registration as a foundation for effective participation in democracy.

He noted that Lokoja LGA’s reputation as one of the State’s largest voting bloc, must be preserved and expanded.

He explained that mobilizing more eligible residents to register would position the area to be more favored in negotiation during the 2027 elections.

The Commissioner pointed out that the CVR programme represents an opportunity for citizens to take ownership of their democratic rights. According to him, “Politics is all about numbers, and the PVC is the most powerful tool any citizen can wield.

“Every resident must understand that their participation or refusal to participate carries consequences. The days of indifference should be over because democracy thrives only when people are actively engaged.”

He further explained that the committee has devised a structure that would make voter registration accessible across every Ward of the local government.

He added that the APC secretariat had been fully equipped with ICT tools to support the process.

In his remarks, the Executive Chairman of Lokoja LGA, Hon. Abdullahi Adamu, called on residents to see the exercise as part of a renewed hope for greater representation in Kogi State politics, insisting that, “Your PVC is your identity and your strongest weapon in building a better future.”

Also speaking, Alhaji Maikudi Bature, the Lokoja LGA APC Chairman, expressed optimism that the people would turn out in their numbers to perform their civic duty.

He charged the newly inaugurated committee members to be diligent, honest and dedicated in the discharge of their assignment.

The Chairman said the Initiative is part of effort to deepen democratic participation and strengthen grassroots mobilization ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The 5 man Central Planning Committee of the CVR is to be Chaired by the APC Lokoja Local Government Vice Chairman, Chief Emmanuel Olaniyo Lonis, while Mojashola Rafat, will serve as Secretary.

Similarly, the Councillors of the 10 Wards of Lokoja LGA are saddled with the Coordination of the 7 man Member Committee constituted for the Wards.
