The Kogi State Commissioner For Education, Science and Technology, Hon. Wemi Jones has disclosed that those involved in examination misconduct in Kogi State that
lead to sanctions by WAEC in time past will be made to face the law after
investigation.
The Commitment made the disclosure in a keynote address at the ongoing 2023 WAEC briefing of Principals, Supervisors and Examination officers in the state currently taking place at Our Lady’s of School, Ayingba.
The Education Commissioner praised the Examination stakeholders in the State for their tremendous improvement in the conduct of external examinations
since his tenure in office, expressed appreciation with the drastic decline in number of cases of schools derecognition and warning.
Hon. Jones however expressed dismay and displeasure that some schools, rather
than consolidating on the State’s educational gains, are averse to positive changes, thereby sabotaging the efforts of the present administration.
The WAEC result analysis from 2022 Hon. Jones explained indicated that a total of 61 schools were derecognized and 14 schools warned in the past, described it as unacceptable, insisting that heads would roll to serve as deterrent for others as the Kogi State Government he explained has zero tolerance for examination malpractices.
Hon. Jones however commended Principals and Schools that have toed the path of
examination ethics and equally urge them to be relentless, implored Principals to make themselves available in school during any paper and avoid compromise.
He urged Supervisors to discharge the
noble task with utmost responsibility promising reward for schools and principals with clean examination record from the Ministry.
Hon. Jones notes with emphasis that government is aware of the challenges of shortage of
teachers in schools, said efforts is being made to tackle the problem as evident in the recruitment and posting of teachers to some schools recently, promising that further effort will be made to cover more grounds.
