Vice‑Chancellor Prof. Salawu Says: CUSTECH Maiden Convocation Embodies Kogi’s Faith, Vision and Investment in Higher Education
The Vice Chancellor, Confluence University of Science and Technology Osara, Engr Prof. Abdulrahman Asipita Salawu,
FNSE, FNIMMME, FNMS, R.ENGR (COREN), has described the maiden convocation of the institution as a public manifestation of the Faith, Vision, and Investment of the Kogi State Government, Management, Council Members, Staff, Students, Parents, the entire Kogi State Community in the noble enterprise of higher education.
The Vice Chancellor made the disclosure at the maiden convocation Press Briefing held at the University. He paid glowing tributes to the former Executive Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency Alhaji Yahaya Bello, CON, who swiftly rose to the challenge of providing opportunity for thousands of Kogites yearning for higher education, but confronted with limited opportunities for University placement.
The Vice Chancellor lauded former Gov Yahaya Bello for assenting to the Act of the State House of Assembly on 20th August 2020, thus announcing the birth of the Confluence University of Science and Technology, Osara.
The Vice Chancellor explained that the University has thus far met with it mandate to train highly skilled human resources in science, engineering, computing, applied sciences, and related disciplines.
The Vice Chancellor noted that the institution has engaged in cutting-edge research that addresses the immediate developmental needs of Kogi State, Nigeria, and the wider world.
He noted that the institution has fostered innovation, entrepreneurship, and problem-solving skills among students, towards making them creators of opportunities rather than mere seekers of jobs, adding that in five years, CUSTECH is already fulfilling the mandate entrusted to it.
The Vice Chancellor said with two faculties, eleven (11) foundation programmes at inception, said the University is now home to 57 approved academic programmes, 44 academic departments, 8 faculties, and 1 College, with over 5,000 students enrolled.
The Vice Chancellor praised the State Government for it efforts in physical infrastructure, modern laboratories, digital facilities, lecture theatres, staff offices, student hostels, and the beautiful campus environment, announced that the maiden convocation, is graduating a total of 132 students from the pioneer set (2023/2024), and 134 from the second set (2024/2025).
He disclosed that Thirty-One (31) students, representing 11.65%, graduated with First Class Honours in the Maiden Combined Convocation — a testament to both the brilliance of our students and the dedication of our faculty.
