Upholding Justice: A Call for Fair Treatment of Former Governor Yahaya Bello by EFCC

As the Chairman of the Arewa Youth Forum, Kogi State Chapter, I am deeply concerned about the recent events surrounding the former governor of our state, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, and the actions taken by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). It is disheartening to witness the unnecessary embarrassment and intimidation faced by a man who has diligently served our state.

First and foremost, it is imperative to emphasize the importance of due process in matters concerning allegations of financial misconduct or corruption. While it is within the EFCC’s mandate to investigate such matters, it must be done in a manner that upholds the principles of fairness, transparency, and justice. No individual, regardless of their status, should be subjected to undue harassment or intimidation.

Alhaji Yahaya Bello, as a former governor and a law-abiding citizen, deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. His contributions to the development of our state are undeniable, and it is unjust to tarnish his reputation without concrete evidence or following proper legal procedures. It is crucial for the EFCC to conduct its investigations without prejudice and to ensure that all parties involved are given a fair opportunity to present their case.

Furthermore, it is important to acknowledge that Alhaji Yahaya Bello is not a fugitive or a criminal on the run. He has cooperated with the authorities, and he is available for questioning whenever required . Therefore, the heavy-handed tactics employed by the EFCC, including unnecessary raids and public spectacles, are unwarranted and only serve to undermine the credibility of the institution.

As responsible citizens, we must demand accountability from our law enforcement agencies and ensure that they adhere to the highest standards of professionalism and integrity. The EFCC must refrain from sensationalism and focus on thorough and unbiased investigations that respect the rights of all individuals involved.

In conclusion, I call upon the EFCC to exercise restraint and follow due process in its dealings with Alhaji Yahaya Bello and any other individual under investigation. Let us uphold the principles of justice and fairness and ensure that the rights of every citizen are protected. It is only through adherence to these principles that we can build a society based on trust, respect, and the rule of law.
