THREE YEARS OF TRANSFORMATIVE REPRESENTATION: HOW HON. DANLADI SULEIMAN AGUYE IS REWRITING THE STORY OF LOKOJA-KOGI FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY

A Legislator Who Legislates With His Hands
As the Lokoja-Kogi Federal Constituency marks the 3rd Anniversary of Hon. Danladi Suleiman Aguye’s representation in the 10th Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, it is both fitting and necessary to pause, reflect, and celebrate a tenure that has redefined what it truly means to serve the people.

From the moment he assumed office, Hon. Danladi Aguye made a quiet but firm promise not just to speak for his constituents on the floor of the National Assembly, but to physically touch their lives, light their communities, water their homes, educate their children, cater for the sick, weak, aged, widows, vulnerable, people with special needs and feed their families. Three years on, that promise has not merely been kept, it has been exceeded in ways that few legislative tenures in recent memory can rival.

The following is a comprehensive account of few of his stewardship, a testament in projects, programmes, appointments, legislation, and human empowerment.

INFRASTRUCTURE DEVELOPMENT: – Roads & Drainage:
• Constructed a 2-kilometre road with drainage channels in Agbaja, providing all-season access for residents and easing the burden of movement across the community.
• Constructed a 2-kilometre road in Gegu-Beki, opening up access to an underserved community.
• Constructed the Ahubena Mawogi (Okadigbo Bridge), a critical link connecting Sarkin-Noma in Ward E with Felele in Oworo Ward bridging communities both physically and economically.
• Influenced the construction of drainage and erosion control infrastructure in Koton-Karfe, mitigating the devastation of seasonal flooding.
• Executed erosion control works in Rimi Community, Lokoja, protecting homes and livelihoods from the ravages of gully erosion.
• On-going construction of the Ikumo Bridge project linking over 30 villages and communities, opening and connecting rural farmers and their produce to the urban centers.

ELECTRICITY & ENERGY: – Transformers:
• Donated and installed a brand-new 500KVA transformer in Adankolo Community, bringing stable electricity to thousands of households.
• Procured and installed a brand-new 300KVA transformer behind the NNPC Fuelling Station at Felele (ongoing).
• Procured and installed a brand-new 500KVA transformer in Tanahu Community (ongoing), with full electrification works underway.
Grid Electrification
• Procured and is installation a 300KVA transformer to the St. Clement residents of Adankolo Community.
• Electrified Okumi Community and connected it to the national grid, in collaboration with the Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly — ending years of darkness in that community.

SOLAR STREET LIGHTING: – In a landmark solar lighting drive that spans the entire constituency, Hon. Aguye has installed solar streetlights across over 100 communities, bringing safety, security, and economic life to streets previously shrouded in darkness and business that thrive at night.

• In Lokoja 1, solar lights have been installed at: Sarkin-Noma, Sardauna Junction, Kabawa, Ungwar-Kura, Ungwar Pawa, Mallam Babatunde Junction, Maigari Palace, Ungwar-Hamza, Mayaki, Karaworo/Bishop Delisele Junction, Inner Karaworo through Shehu Ebaiya Residence to Kutepa Mosque, Old Central Mosque through Tudun-Faila, Lokoja GSM village, Meat market Old market Lokoja Up Garage to Markazi Islamic Academy and streets within Adankolo Community.

• In Lokoja 2, solar lights have been installed in: Mami, Ebbe, Mikugi, Budon Tsofo, Buge, Eddo, Tsanawa, Abugi, Eggan, Agbodo, Owara, Omuwa, Ogbongboro, Jamata, Akpanya, Ohono-Sokwogaye, Ohono, Oreta, Umoru Uku, Gbaude, Iziho, Karara, Ebugabi, Igoti, Edo-Yawa, Okumi, Banda and Agbaja communities.

• In Kogi Local Government, solar lights have been installed in: Ete, Okofi, Adagima, Ugwo, Ogbangede, Irenodu, Odamaruku, Odama, Ibohu, Ikumo, Okpaka, Gegu, Nyaba, Idu, Kusa, and surrounding communities.
Additional communities across the constituency including Ahoko, Tazenyi, Edeha, Atsawa, Doji/Kumpala, Miza, Fikara, Onumaye, Edimose, Opanda, Akabu, Otube, Kungbani-Odukpa, and Banda have also benefited.
Installed solar lights in the popular Meat Market at Old Market, Lokoja, boosting commercial activity for traders.

• Solar lights installation at the Lokoja GSM Village following the fire disaster, restoring safety to the business area.
Ongoing solar lights installation along all communities between Agbodo and Okumi/Banda (in progress).

WATER & SANITATION: – Drilled and installed a motorized solar borehole in Adankolo Community, providing clean, sustainable water access.
• Drilled and installed a motorized solar borehole in Gegu-Beki, serving the educational and residential needs of that community.
• Drilled a motorized borehole in Yaragi, addressing a long standing water crisis.
• Drilled a motorized borehole in Okumi Community, approved and delivered to residents.
• Extended the water fetching point in Iziho Community, bringing water closer to residents.
• Rehabilitated faulty motorized boreholes at: New Layout, Madabo Centre, European Cemetery, Yaragi Junction, and Kwatan-Koto.
Rehabilitated a faulty borehole in Ukwo-Onyaku, Koton-Karfe, restoring water access to that community.

EDUCATION: – School Infrastructure:
• Built, completed, and furnished a 6-block classroom complex in Gegu-Beki, delivering a worldclass learning environment to underserved students.
• Scholarship Programme:
• Over 200 constituents are currently benefiting from a full education scholarship programme, under which Hon. Aguye personally secured admissions into institutionsof higher learning for qualified constituents, paid fees, tuition, settled school fees, and funded accommodation for students who chose to reside on campus.
• Free Summer Lessons Initiative:
• Organised two phases of a free summer lesson programme in 2024 and 2025, covering 15 schools in Lokoja 1 and 2, and 8 schools in Kogi Local Government reaching thousands of students. All participants received free writing materials, and hundreds of teachers were engaged and paid stipends and transport allowances for their participation.

HEALTHCARE: – Organised multiple phases of free medical outreaches across Lokoja 1, Lokoja 2, Karara, Gegu-Beki, and Kogi Local Government Area, providing free medical consultations, medications, and care to thousands of constituents, the elderly, youth, and nursing mothers alike.

AGRICULTURE & FOOD SECURITY: – Distributed fertilisers, herbicides, pesticides, and water pumping machines to farmers for both wet and dry season farming across two phases in 2023 and 2024, significantly boosting agricultural output in the constituency.

EMPOWERMENT & SKILLS DEVELOPMENT: – Trained and Empowered 1,000 constituents in fishery, poultry, and livestock farming with certificate of participation and completion, disbursing ₦50,000 each as startup capital a total direct investment of ₦50 million excluding payments to facilitators, security, and logistics for the training.
• Trained and empowered 700 additional constituents in poultry, fishery, and goat production, awarding certificates of completion and startup cash to all participants.
• Conducted an information and business skills programme for 1,000 constituents across three phases, covering bookkeeping, food packaging, and processing, with cash support for all participants.
• Organised a residential training programme for 40 youths and women in footwear and leather goods production, providing free accommodation, feeding, weekly cash stipends, and startup equipment including industrial and filling machines, equipments and materials and cash startup capital.
• Organised a cash empowerment programme for 500 women and youth in Koton-Karfe, directly injecting funds into the grassroots economy.

RELIEF & DISASTER RESPONSE: – Distributed rice, cows, rams, wrappers for women, and other food items to traditional rulers, community leaders, stakeholders, religious bodies, associations, and individuals during Eid-el-Adha, Eid-el-Fitr, and Christmas celebrations since assumption of office in recognition of the cultural and social significance of festive seasons.
• Distributed relief materials to flood-affected victims in Kogi Local Government Area, helping families rebuild after devastating flooding.
• Provided cash support to victims of the fire disaster at Lokoja GSM Village, donating the sum of ₦1 million to affected traders.
• Supported victims and families of the boat mishap in Ebbe (Kupa South), offering financial assistance of ₦5 million in their time of grief.
• Influenced the procurement and distribution of relief items by NEMA to victims of flood and fire disasters across the constituency.

EMPLOYMENT & APPOINTMENTS: – Appointed 60 personal aides and has sustained monthly salary payments running into millions of naira, providing direct employment and dignified livelihoods within the constituency.
• Secured employment for constituents in the:

◦ Federal institutions of higher learning (4)
• Facilitated dozens of appointments and ongoing recruitment processes for qualified constituents.
SECURITY: – Collaborating and supporting security operatives with logistics in the fight against kidnapping, banditry and terrorism across his constituency like motorcycles among other items.

LEGISLATIVE ACHIEVEMENTS: – Motion of Urgent Public Importance
On Wednesday, 19th February 2025, Hon. Aguye moved a Motion of Urgent Public Importance on the floor of the House of Representatives titled:
THE NEED TO INTERVENE IN THE CONSTANT FATAL ACCIDENTS ON THE LOKOJA/FELELE/BENIN-LAGOS/ABUJA EXPRESSWAY
The motion drew national attention to the recurring fatal accidents on this critical highway noting that within 2025 alone, over ten crashes had occurred, culminating in the devastating loss of Federal University of Lokoja students on 17th February 2025 when an articulated truck rammed into a university shuttle bus.
The House resolved to:
• Observe a minute’s silence in honour of the victims.
• Urge the Federal Government through the Ministry of Works and FERMA to expedite road expansion and construct flyovers and pedestrian bridges.
Restrict the movement of trailers and trucks within Lokoja metropolis to night operations (10pm–6am).
• Mandate the relevant House Committees to ensure implementation and report back within two weeks.

• To establish a comprehensive agricultural institution that will anchor education, research, and innovation in agribusiness.

-To establish a federal tourist centre that will harness Lokoja’s historical significance as the confluence of the River Niger and River Benue to drive tourism, revenue, and employment.

• To establish a federal institution for skills development and entrepreneurship, equipping the youth of Kogi State with trade and technical competencies.
National Research Institute of Cassava Bio-Ethanol Value Chain Plant, Jamata, Kogi State (Establishment) Bill, 2024 (HB. 1890)

-To establish a research institute that will advance the cassava bio-ethanol industry, creating sustainable energy solutions and diversifying the local economy.

• To establish a national institute that will boost local rice production, improve milling techniques, and foster innovation in rice processing.

• To establish an institution dedicated to geological sciences and mining, stimulating research, professional training, and sustainable exploitation of Kogi State’s vast mineral resources.
Research Institute of Maritime Industrial Fisheries Resources, Koton-Karfe, Kogi State (Establishment) Bill, 2024 (HB. 1893)

• To establish a research institute that will promote sustainable fishing, maritime resource management, and economic development along Kogi’s vast waterways.

A WORD FROM HIS CONSTITUENCY
Three years ago, Lokoja-Kogi Federal Constituency sent a man to Abuja. What they have received in return is not merely legislative representation, it is development that you can see with your eyes, drink with your mouth, read by its light at night, and build a business upon.
Hon. Danladi Suleiman Aguye has proven beyond doubt that a legislator’s first constituency is his people, the highest office in the land is the office of the people, the peoples leaders are the peoples servants and that the true measure of representation is not the noise made at the podium, but the transformation witnessed on the ground.
As we mark three years of purposeful, people centred leadership, the people of Lokoja-Kogi Federal Constituency stand proud and they stand grateful.
The journey continues.
