About eight weeks ago, following the second heavy rainfall that left major parts of Calabar flooded, His Excellency, Senator Prince Bassey Otu, the People’s First Governor of Cross River State, visited some of the affected areas for an on-the-spot assessment. Hart Street in Calabar South was one of the areas he visited.
It is therefore heartwarming to note that earlier today, while passing through Hart Street, I observed that serious work has commenced on the street.
For years, Hart Street, particularly in Ward 9, Calabar South, has been one of the major areas affected by flooding whenever there is heavy rainfall.
This prompt attention is exactly what many of us crave whenever we draw the Government’s attention to failing infrastructure and challenges affecting our communities.
Nothing more.
We want a government that listens to the cries of the people and responds with positive actions that wipe away their tears.
On this note, I sincerely appreciate His Excellency, Governor Bassey Otu, for this prompt intervention. I pray that God continues to strengthen him and give him the wisdom and courage to do more for the people of Cross River State.
As citizens, we will continue to support the Government by identifying areas that require urgent attention and bringing them to the appropriate authorities—for the good and development of our people.
The People’s First Government is listening.

Cross River is moving forward.
