Take advantage of new improved seedlings to enhance your economic status –  CNFA Country Reps. Tells Kogi Cashew Farmers


 

Cashew farmers in Kogi State have been advised to take advantage of the new improved seedlings to enhance their economic status.

Country Representative, Cultivating New Frontiers in Agriculture, CNFA Pro-Cashew Project, Mr Toyin Olorunfemi gave the advice at a Cashew Farmers Field Day Event at Cashew House, Ogidibeje junction, Agbeji in Dekina Local Government Area.

Speaking at the event, Mr Olorunfemi said the Pro Cashew project will help to leaverage relationship with relevant bodies and Countries.

He noted that access to improved planting materials has been a major challenge hence the intervention by development partners.

In his speech, the Head, Ochaja station of Cocoa Research Institute of Nigeria, Doctor Dele Adeniyi said the collaboration with the Pro- Cashew project and the Cashew Farmers Union was to get results in cashew production and marketing.

Doctor Adeniyi urged the farmers to put the training into practice, stressing that Nigeria no longer depends on oil, but Agriculture.

Earlier, the President of Cashew Farmers Union of Nigeria (CFUN), Mr Stephen Ahiaba explained that four African Countries are benefiting from the Pro- Cashew Project.

Mr Ahiaba maintained that Kogi state as a major producer of Cashew will continue to take the lead through modern technology in the production of Cashew.

Some of the farmers, Sunday Abubakar, Elder E.O. Adegbe and Mr Jeremiah Onugba described the training as very rewarding and thanked the organizers for their commitment to the welfare of Cashew Farmers.

Nigeria has been acknowledged as a major producer of Cashew among other few African Countries which has been proved by its exporting capacity.

Similarly, Kogi State has always taken the lead as a major producer of Cashew hence the training on the methodology of planting the new improved Cashew seedling called Polyclonal cashew seeds.
