The State Government has been called upon to make public the recently passed Persons With Disability Office Law to enable citizens have an understanding of the tems contained in the law.
The call to make the law passed public was made at a Stakeholders Media Parley between Persons Living With Disabilities and Civil Society Organizations in Kogi State, described the passage of the law as commendable, but lamented that the documents is not in public dormain.
The PLWD and the CSOs disclosed that Several months after the Persons with Disabilities Office law was assented to, they have not come in contact with the document to know what is contained therin.
The Stakeholders said aside the passage of the Persons with disabilities, called for its speedy Implementation, pointing out that when implemented, it will afford PLWD rights that has been denied them in terms of socioeconomic developement.
The Stakeholders commended the Kogi State House of Assembly, Gov. Yahaya Bello for the passage and Assent of the law, expressed worries that the law need to be documented and gazetted.
The Stakeholders called on the State Government to gazzate all laws passed in the state since 2016, pointed out that it is unhealthy for laws passed and assented to, not to be gazetted.
The Stakeholders meeting with the Media, CSOs and PLWD was Organized by the Leprosy Mission Nigeria, described the meeting as a step in the right direction towards enforcement of the rights of persons living with disabilities to good life.
The TLMN Project Officer for Kogi State, Mrs Hannah A. Fashona, said the Organization would continue to support PLWD, called for the making public the law recently passed by the State.
