Ladies and gentlemen,
On this special occasion of Micro, Small, and Medium-Sized Enterprises Day, we gather here to celebrate and recognize the invaluable contributions of entrepreneurs around the world and most significantly entrepreneurs in Kogi State. Today, we honor the spirit of innovation, perseverance, and economic empowerment that drives micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to shape our economies and societies.
Entrepreneurs are the backbone of economic growth and job creation. They are the catalysts for change, transforming ideas into reality and creating opportunities for themselves and others. MSMEs, in particular, play a vital role in driving inclusive and sustainable development by providing employment, fostering innovation, and contributing to local economies.
This day 27th June 2023 serves as a reminder of the importance of nurturing and supporting entrepreneurs at all levels. The theme for this year is Galvanizing MSMEs Worldwide by Supporting Women and Youth Entrepreneurship and Resilient Supply Chains. It is a call to action for Kogi State Governments, businesses, and communities to create an enabling environment that empowers entrepreneurs to thrive and succeed.
First and foremost, we must recognize the immense potential and resilience of micro, small, and medium enterprises often led by individuals with limited resources, have exhibit in placing a remarkable creativity in solving problems, creating an adaptable environment, and with their great determination in overcoming any challenges that come their way be it Physical or Spiritual. They are engines of growth, enhancing productivity, and contributing to local and global value chains.
Moreover, MSMEs are at the forefront of innovation and technological advancements. They are agile and quick to embrace new ideas, technologies, and business models. In today’s rapidly changing world, MSMEs are driving digital transformation, leveraging e-commerce platforms, and pioneering breakthrough solutions that are shaping the future of industries.
However, it is crucial to acknowledge the barriers and obstacles that entrepreneurs face in our Nation Nigeria. Limited access to finance, inadequate infrastructure, unavailability of access to market, burdensome regulations, and a lack of affordable tools and training can hinder the growth and sustainability of MSMEs. As we celebrate this day, let us commit ourselves to addressing these challenges and creating an environment that fosters entrepreneurship.
Governments play a pivotal role in supporting MSMEs by implementing policies that facilitate access to finance, streamlining regulations, and providing targeted support programs. I sincerely appreciate His Excellency Alhaji Yahaya Bello the Executive Governor of Kogi State for the support and reducing bureaucratic red tape, promoting financial inclusion, and offering training and mentorship opportunities, empowering entrepreneurs to overcome obstacles and unlock their full potential.
On this note, permit me to also appreciate our facilitator and guest speaker at the Maiden Edition of Kogi Entrepreneurs and Non Governmental Organisation Summit 2022 held in Kogi State, first, Mrs. Charity Ukwo Abah, the North Central Zonal Coordinator for Small Medium Enterprise Development Agency Nigeria (SMEDAN), Hajiya Rekiya Onaivo Sanni, MD/CEO Kogi Enterprise Development Agency she was represented by Mr. Arome Daniel, Enterprise Department. Mr. Akinrinmade Isaac, Managing Director Bank of Agriculture Limited. Amb. Idris Ozovehe Muraina, Chairperson Kogi Non Governmental Organisation Network. Oladele John Nihi, Vice President West African Pan Africa Youth Union. Mrs. Joan Aboh, Founder Amanda’s Foundation for Women Empowerment.
Hence, the private sector has a responsibility to collaborate with MSMEs, creating partnerships that promote knowledge sharing, access to markets, access to funds and technology transfer. Large corporations can support smaller enterprises by incorporating them into their value chains, promoting fair and transparent business practices, and fostering a culture of entrepreneurship within their organizations.
It delighted me to state here clearly on this public note that I have a dream to create a supporting system where youth can access funds flexibly to identify youths whom are creative and innovative thinkers, driving for sustainability of the economy, help them start or improve in their business without the pressure of paying back. I also urge everyone to support me on this remarkable goal and make it sees the light of the day.
Communities and individuals also have a role to play in nurturing entrepreneurs. Step Business Network is known of celebrating and promoting local businesses, supporting entrepreneurship education, and embracing a culture of innovation, we foster an entrepreneurial ecosystem that empowers individuals to pursue their dreams and create positive change in their communities.
Today, as we mark Micro, Small, and Medium Entrepreneurship Day, let us renew our commitment to empowering entrepreneurs worldwide. I want to also use this opportunity to announce the Kogi Entrepreneurs and Nongovernmental Summit 2023 coming up on the 5th of October 2023, we look forward to having you all there.
Let us recognize and celebrate our achievements, while also addressing the challenges we face. We also like to encourage the Kogi State Government to do more in area of supporting MSMEs and by supporting and investing in MSMEs, we can unlock the full potential as drivers of economic growth, job creation, and sustainable development.
Together, let us create a Kogi State where entrepreneurs thrive, where every individual has the opportunity to turn their ideas into reality, and where MSMEs are at the forefront of innovation and progress.
