It was a moment of sweet reminiscence and nostalgic reflection as friends and top academics drawn from Kogi State University, Anyigba, and Federal University, Lokoja, visited and congratulated Dr Salisu Ogbo Usman on his well deserved confirmation as Rector of Kogi State Polytechnic.
The academics who visited Dr Usman at his office on Tuesday 2nd of March, 2021, said they were in the institution to congratulate him on his confirmation and honour him for a remarkable feats recorded within a short period of piloting the affairs of the Polytechnic.
They include a former Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics) Kogi State University, Professor Sani Momoh, a former Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Kogi State University, Professor Salihu Danlami Musa, one-time Head of Department of History and International Relations and one-time Dean, Student Affairs, Federal University Lokoja, Professor Mohammed Suleiman Audu.
Professor Audu who spoke on behalf of the distinguished academics said their visit was symbolic; as it was to identify with Dr Usman following the confirmation of his appointment as Rector of Kogi State Polytechnic.
He noted that Dr Usman’s remarkable achievements in the institution within the short time he was in charge as Acting Rector did not come as a surprise as he has been known for delivering positive results every where he has served.
Professor Audu added that the
remarkable turnaround witnessed in the Kogi State Polytechnic under Dr Usman is a reward for his usual ‘doggedness and sagacity in quality delivery’, and prayed God to bless and guide him with more wisdom and direction to achieve more in the institution.
He added that the “confirmation is well deserved, judging from your track records of breakthrough in infrastructural development and quality of teaching and learning at the Polytechnic.
“You have demonstrated immeasurable excellence and hard work all through your endeavors, first at the University of Ilorin, where you distinguished yourself as a budding administrator and second at the Kogi State University, Anyigba where you toiled tooth and nail to reposition General Studies Directorate, E-Examination, Student Affairs, Consultancy and Department of Political Science.
“Your exploits as a Governing Council member of the University was not only monumental but highly rewarding and beneficial to mankind, and as the circumstance demanded.
“Be rest assured sir, that your name will be boldly written in the annals of history, and your legacy shall be an indelible imprint in the sand of time,” he said.
In his response, the visibly elated Rector of Kogi State Polytechnic appreciated the doyens of academic for the honour and thanked them for their support through the years.
Dr. Usman said his confirmation as Rector of Kogi Poly was a result of collective efforts of the Management, staff, students and the wonderful counsel he received from friends like them.
While promising never to disappoint them, Dr Usman reassured the visiting academics that he will always make meaningful impact in the lives of students and the institution in the ways they would be proud of.
Highlights of the visit was the presentation of traditional attire and congratulatory plaque to the Rector.
Dr Ogbo Usman thereafter joined the Professors to pay a courtesy visit on the newly appointed Vice Chancellor of Federal University Lokoja, Professor Olayemi Akinwunmi, in his office at the University’s permanent site in Lokoja.
