Senator Moro completes PhD programme on leadership at NDA


 

The lawmaker representing Benue South Senatorial District in the Senate, Senator Abba Moro, has completed his Doctorate Degree (PhD) programme on leadership and strategic studies at Africa’s top military university, Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) in Kaduna.

 

In an interview, Moro, a political scientist and former lecturer at the Benue State Polytechnic, Ugbokolo, said he decided to undergo a doctorate degree programme on leadership and strategic studies to further build his capacity to contribute meaningfully to finding solution to the leadership problem in the country.

Speaking on how he feels with the completion of the PhD programme and how he was able to achieve the feat despite his busy schedule as a serving senator, the educationist turned politician, said: “It’s all about dreams. It’s all about focus. It’s all about determination and of course hard work. Sometimes in life you have to make some hard decisions that will be hard to implement. So I just took the decision to pursue a programme on leadership. I picked up the challenge and decided to make some sacrifices here and there. The result is what you have seen today, completing the programme on Leadership and Strategic studies to enhance my capacity to contribute positively towards solving the leadership problem in Nigeria.”

Moro who is said to have come out with an excellent result upon his completion of the PhD programme added that “In order to get what you want you may have to forgo certain other things. In this case I sacrificed my leisure to realize my dream.”

The parliamentarian of note had his first degree from UNILAG in 1980 and a Master of Public Administration (MPA) from same institution in 1982 before later obtaining a Master of Science (MSc) in public administration from the University of Nigeria, Nsuka, UNN.

A grassroots politician, former Executive Chairman of Okpokwu Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue State and erstwhile Minister of Interior, Moro, a second-term Senator, while in Benue State Polytechnic (between 1983 and 1996), served as Head of the Department of General Studies, Head of the Department of Public Administration and Dean of School of Business and Administrative Studies at different times.

A stalwart of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) born on July 3, 1958, he was Chairman of the Governing Council of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike. He was also at a time the Chairman and Pro-Chancellor of Federal University of Agriculture Makurdi.

He is believed to have been gladly and willingly re-elected by the Benue South people in the 2023 polls due to his quality representation, as was demonstrated in his eloquent inputs to debates on the floor of the Red Chamber and the manifold valuable projects he facilitated to better the lives of his constituents.
