By joshua Senator Karimi Condemns Ikoyi Attack, Demands Enhanced Security In Ijumu LGA
Senator Sunday Steve Karimi, representing Kogi West Senatorial District, has condemned the recent attack on Ikoyi community in Ijumu Local Government Area, describing it as unfortunate, disturbing and unacceptable.
In a statement issued after reports of the incident, the Senator expressed sadness over the tragedy and sympathized with victims, their families, and residents of Ikoyi and Ijumu who have been affected.
Karimi said the attack caused pain to innocent citizens and created fear among residents who have continued to live peacefully and contribute to community development.
He stressed that the security and wellbeing of citizens remain paramount, noting that no community should be subjected to violence or criminal attacks that threaten peace and stability.
“The news of the attack on Ikoyi community came to me with great shock and sadness. My heart goes out to the victims, their families, and all those who have suffered loss as a result of this incident. I stand in solidarity with the people during this difficult period,” he stated.
The lawmaker prayed for the repose of those who died, comfort for grieving families, and speedy recovery for the injured. He called on security agencies to intensify investigations and deploy all necessary resources to identify and apprehend the perpetrators, insisting that justice must be served to deter future attacks.
Senator Karimi urged security institutions to strengthen surveillance, intelligence gathering and rapid response mechanisms in vulnerable areas across Ijumu LGA and Kogi West.
He also advocated increased security presence in rural communities, and called on government at all levels to equip law enforcement with the logistics and operational support needed to protect lives and property.
He appealed to Traditional rulers, Community leaders, Youth groups and Religious organizations to collaborate with security agencies by providing timely and credible information. “Community participation remains critical in the fight against insecurity. Sustainable peace can only be achieved through collective responsibility,” he said.
The senator reassured residents of his commitment to supporting initiatives that protect lives and property across Kogi West. He pledged to continue engaging security stakeholders to strengthen the district’s security architecture and prevent future occurrences.
Karimi urged residents not to succumb to fear but to remain law-abiding, vigilant and united while supporting security operations. He said the resilience and unity of the people would be key to overcoming criminal elements.
Political leaders, community stakeholders and youth organizations have commended the senator’s swift response, describing it as a reflection of his commitment to the welfare and security of constituents. Residents have also echoed his call for urgent security reinforcement to prevent similar incidents.
