Sen. Ohere Advocates Wholistic Action At Curtailing Negative Impacts of Flooding by FG.


 

The Senator Representing Kogi Central in the National Assembly, Sen. Abubakar Ohere is seeking a wholistic action by the Federal Government towards curtailing the annual negative impact caused by flooding in the country.

 

Sen. Ohere made the submission while contributing to a motion raised on the floor of the Senate on the negative impact of flooding across the country, explained that Kogi State suffers unquantifiable loss following perennial flooding of the rivers Benue and Niger.

The motion on impact of flooding was moved by Sen. Gbenga Daniel, called on the Federal Government to as a matter of proactiveness look at measures aimed at reducing the impact of flooding in the country.

Sen. Ohere described the annual flooding that affect many States in the country with Kogi State worst affected as most unfortunate, said rather than segmenting the issues of the annual flooding in the country, called for a wholistic action.

The Senator called for a an appropriate and concrete action that would check further destruction of lives and properties.

Sen. Ohere called for a wholistic solution that would include dredging, building of dams and canals, lamented that several states with Kogi in particular has been worst affected.

The Senator observed that the issues of flooding has gone beyond the palliatives with States not able to handle the impact, urged the Senate to compel the Federal Government to take proactive steps that would check the perennial flooding in the country.

It would be recalled that Sen. Ohere is recorded the first motion to have been moved by the 10th Senate. The motion seeks for the revitalization of Ajaokuta Steel Company, with the Senator insisting that when operational the Steel Company would curb incessant building collapse, provide employment and reposition the country for technological advancement.
