The Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Sunday Karimi, has raised the alarm over a surge in kidnappings across Kogi State, saying the crime has become a daily occurrence in several communities.
Speaking during plenary on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, Karimi revealed that 28 residents were abducted recently in Ayegunle Bunu, a community in Kogi West, as part of what he described as a growing wave of insecurity in the state.
The lawmaker made the disclosure while contributing to a motion of urgent public importance sponsored by Senator Abdulfatai Buhari of Oyo North, which addressed the recent abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.
Karimi warned that the persistent attacks by kidnappers were crippling economic activities, instilling fear among residents, and undermining public confidence in governance at the grassroots level. He urged the federal government and security agencies to urgently deploy more personnel and modern security infrastructure to Kogi West to curb the trend.
The Kogi West senator’s remarks add to growing concerns about rural insecurity in Nigeria’s North Central region, where abductions for ransom have escalated in recent months.
