THE ADDRESS OF THE HON. COMMISSIONER FOR EDUCATION, SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY HON. WEMI JONES, FCIB, ON THE OCCASION OF THE FLAG-OFF CEREMONY OF THE SCHOOL ADOPTION AND MENTORSHIP PROGRAMME,
It gives me great joy that the School Adoption and Mentorship programme has finally kicked off on a positive note to the glory of God. The School Adoption and Mentorship programme is the initiative of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, aimed at encouraging
stakeholders to encourage learners’ interest in school by adopting and mentoring students in Public Secondary Schools across the State. We are starting with Secondary Education level since the Basic level has support from UBEC, while the Tertiary Education has TETfund for support.
Education is crucial, as the hallmark of what education stands for is the total development of the individual: for full actualization of the functionality of the society. It is based on the that His Excellency Alhaji Yahaya Bello gave the approval for the School Adoption and Mentorship programme to help restore the glory of education and to motivate learners for unproved performance. His Excellency adopted education as one of the focal areas of attention and allocated 20% of 2021 budget to Education and also increased year 2022 budget to Education to 30% a feat that is monumental and iconic in the history of the State as this surpasses the UNESCO global benchmark. However despite Government’s effort, a lot remains to be done, since Government alone cannot do everything. Colective effort and team work by Stakcholders is required to ensure the provision of accessible, safe and conducive learning environment, and quality education deliver.
