Rise Against Child Trafficking, Child Abuse Others Nwifuru’s Wife Charges Ebonyi Women

The Wife of Ebonyi State Governor, Chief (Mrs) Uzoamaka Mary-Maudlin Nwifuru, has charged Ebonyi Women to rise against Child Trafficking, Child abuse and other forms of violence in the State.

She gave the charge during the Flag off of 2023 Women August Meeting in Abakaliki Local Government Area, held at the Council Headquarters, Nkaliki.

Mrs. Nwifuru who was represented by the Wife of the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mrs. Peace Odoh, noted that the administration of her husband, Chief Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, abhors Child Trafficking, Child Labour and Child abuse and called on Ebonyi Women to rise against the ugly menace, warning that perpetrators would be severely sanctioned according to the law.

In her address, the Chairperson of the Council, Mrs. Obioma Lydia Nwogba, while commending the Governor’s Wife for her good pet project in the State, said the August gathering would offer Abakaliki Women and their families, the opportunity to chart the way forward, unite the women and discuss relevant issues that would better the lots of the Women, their families and the Society at large.

In a remark, the Chairman of the Ocassion, Mrs. Charity Ikebe, frowned at the level of indecent dressing among girls in the society and called on Mothers to always be conscious of the way of the Children.

In their goodwill messages, the Chairman, Izzi Council of Traditional Rulers and Traditional Ruler of Amagu Autonomous Community, Eze Fidelis Nwonumara, wife of the chief of Staff to Ebonyi State Governor Dr Nkechi Echiegu, Lady Virginia Oketa, Mrs. Helen Nwobashi, Mrs. Salome Uguru, Mrs. Ifeyinwa Oliver Nwachukwu among others, while encouraging the women to take good care of their Children and Husband, thanked Mrs. Nwifuru and the Chairperson of the Council, Mrs. Obioma Lydia Nwogba for their love for Abakaliki Women and Children and promised to take what they learnt at the meeting to the hinterland for action.

Resource Persons at the August meeting, including Mrs. Nwabugwu Ann of National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, Mrs. Faithvin Nwanchor, of the State Gender Based Violence Task Force, Mrs. Oluchukwu Odeh of FIDA and the HOD of Health, Abakaliki Local Government Area, Mrs. Patience Aja, warned the Women against giving out their Children for maid, adding that Ebonyi State VAP Law is against rape, economic violence, beating and many other violence against Women and girls and called on the Women to always speak out whenever they are violated to get justice.

This year’s August meeting which has it’s team as; MOTHER, WHERE IS YOUR CHILD, featured Drama, Special Songs and Distribution of Wrapper, buckets and undisclosed amount of money to over two hundred Widows drawn from the Fourteen Wards of the Council.
